Semi hollow body?

Would a guitar like Brian Setzer plays in the Stray Cats (semi hollow body?) give an acoustical sound?

My current guitars are both solid body (Gibson Les Paul and Fender Strat). Most of my practice is not hooked up to an amp.

Would a semi hollow body have effect of an acoustic, with the action of an electric?

Re: Semi hollow body?

my artcore sounds pretty good acoustic to me, it's one of the reasons I bought it. I have the AG86 I believe. It's one with the big body, i'm gonna put a bigsby on it someday as well.

Re: Semi hollow body?

Not really. What makes the acoustic sound is the acoustic strings and the flexibility of the (usually spruce or cedar) top. The archtop hollowbodies that get played at high stage volume are usually multi-ply maple, so they don't feedback like crazy from the volume. I bought an Epi Joe Pass for Brian Setzer stuff, and it sounds great with a swap of pickups (GFS Nashville 'trons or something), but it doesn't sound like an acoustic. For that you'd need a carved archtop, which would both run you thousands and feedback like crazy at high volume.
You defintiely get electric guitar action from an archtop with electric string though.
A semi-hollow would be more like a 335, or Heritage 535/555
