This may or may not be the right place to put this, but:
South Africa is not a country renowned for its quality of
service, and this lack of renown is pretty well deserved in general. However, I took my Yamaha FG in for a setup after being completely unable to figure out the best way to lower the action (this is the one with the back-mounted neck and an almost decked Wilkinson trem).
Cue two weeks later. I go in to collect the guitar. It looks and feels GREAT, action spot on, intonation great, frets really well crowned and sparkling. Manager comes in to speak to me - turns out the neck was chipped when taken off to be shimmed, but they'd had it filled recoated and polished up in the meantime.
Jacques :"Just here where it disappears under the back plate"
Me: "I can't see it."
J : " Yeah, they did a pretty good job>"
Me (glasses on by now) "I still can't see it."
J: "We feel really bad about this, what can we give you in return?"
Me "Nothing. You did such a great job fixing it, I wouldn't have noticed."
J: "No really, we felt really bad about it."
Since I didn't buy anything on the day, I was given a couple of free setups after they'd gone to the expense of getting it fixed beyond the limits of my eyesight (even enhanced).
Great service, needs a mention - South Africans: deal exclusively with Music Connection on Jan Smuts Ave. if you're around JHB. Everyone else, I hope you find a place as good as this.
