Single Vs Double locking TRS trems - need feedback
I heard the single locking is inferior as far as staying in tune is concerned. Anyone using a RG270 please give yr opinion.
I got a RG270 (couldn't afford a higher model) but I wanna upgrade the bridge to a double locking one. Any suggestions if the same single
locking bridge
can be modified to a double locking bridge? Probably by changing the saddles - coz thats the only difference i noticed in the constructions!

*don't buy the single locking one!!!!!!! thats the worst mistake u can make. i had a rg220 with that single locking trem cause i thought they were good ( that was my first electric ) and man that was bad. u are better off with a
fixed bridge guitar
, those things don't stay in tune especially if u want to use the trem in anyway.

Single Vs Double locking TRS trems
I would either buy a hardtail or doubl-locking Edge trem. The TRS is passable compared to a single locking system. WIth proper setup, good nut,
locking tuners
and some luck a
vintage trem
can stay intune with mild use. Just watch any Strat whammy abuser (ie Hendrix, Blackmore, Yngwie, SRV) and you'll see them constantly fuss w/ the tuning live. Good luck... glen

Thanx guys. But tell me - will the double lcking
edge trem
easily replace the single locking TRS? Or will there be any modifications required? Is the spacing of the trem posts going to remain the same? Can you suggest the exact model of the double locking edge trem for this replacement?

Hold on there guys. If you aren't much of a trem user or abuser then the single locking one will get you by **if and only if** you get a tremsetter or similar device. My first RG was a 270. *If I remember correctly, I only had it for a month before getting a tremsetter. That was the worst month for me guitarwise. The thing never held tune and if you did bends, rested on the bridge, or even strum too hard it would go out of tune. I put a tremsetter in and set it to the stiffest I possibly could and that fixed the problem. Last time I tuned it was the last time I changed strings (about 2 years ago but then again I hardly ever use it now). After that upgrade it was a step up from my strat (more like a backup at the time).

Thanks 'RG Guy'
That was a very useful input. I shall give the tremsetter a try. If it doesn't work, well, then I guess an edge trem is the only viable solution. But I guess the tremsetter is worth a shot!

If you get a tremsetter I have a warning for you. I really screwed up (pun coming up) when installing it. First you have to screw an anchor in. It goes down toward the
neck pickup
. The screws they gave were sort of long so it punctured the pickup wire. I fixed the wire and made it all nice with electrical tape and I also put some washers under the anchor. That kept the screws from going into the wire. I also wrapped the anchor in electrical tape just in case. Also you have to drill a hole on the side of the trem cavity going toward the neck. That was kind of hard too with a regular drill. I had to use a dremel with a flex attachment to fix it up. For $40 (and some elbow grease) it is worth a try if you don't use the trem much. If you need help just post back and I will even try to get pictures of my handiwork.

Thanx 'RG Guy'
I guess the pics would be a greaaaaaaaaaat help. I have decided to give the tremsetter a try. Only if in case it doesn't work out will I go in for the expensive lo-
pro edge trem
. And the fact is that I don't really abuse the trem as of now, but who knows... maybe later I would master its use.. well! till then let the tremsetter suffice.
