Smoky Acoustic

i just got an acoustic guitar from someone who is a smoker. several times, i get a strong whiff of old smoke comin from inside the guitar. you guys have any suggestions on how i can get rid of that stench? i dont wanna spray febreeze in there, but i will if i have to. suggestions? thanks.

Time? It should go away after a while. Definitely wouldn't spray anything into it.

Take up smoking.

Time and fresh air, preferably not at an extreme temperature. Come spring, let it air out. Baking soda may help absorb the odor. Put some in a small dish inside the guitar and change it frequently. If some spills, it won't harm the guitar; shake or vacuum it out and get the last bits with a damp cloth.

Serious suggestion this time: cat litter. Absorbs any number of smells.

Stick a couple of naftalene pills in there so that it smells like an old person's closet

i know what you meant, but even fresh cat litter stinks to me. like the vomit rocks they used to throw down at school if a kid upchucked in the hallway....
