Snatched up a Blue Sparkle '97 RG570! - Heh, dumb pawn shop.

Hi guys.. I did the rounds, pawn hopping today, and stumbled upon this:

1997, absolutely mint, still had all the plastic on the covers.. $300 with the case, which had a bunch of stuff in it too(ex: unused planet waves strap).. Neck was perfect, no warps, no pitting on the Edge, it's like NOS.. No trem bar, but that's normal..

I am a seriously happy camper.. *Already pulled the bar mount out, and put on a schaller bar/socket (I know, blasphemy)...

So, what pickups should I put in this? All my other guitars will have Breeds shortly, and I want something similar, but different for this guitar... Possibly EVO's, an Evo + Paf Pro, or a Super3 + Paf Pro.. Either way, I'm going with white pickups, knobs, strap, and switch tip.. Gotta look good too..

Anyone have any suggestions? I like a lot of mid range in a bridge pickup, with less bass, and a good clean neck p-up for lead playing.. Thinking of going hotter this time though, as you can tell from my ideas..

Thanks guys, I'm real happy with this purchase.. This makes two RGs I've grabbed from pawn shops for cheap over the years(got my 750 for under $300 mint in '95)..

I've only seen one green one around town here, and that was in the shop I work at.. It was in for repair, and in pretty bad shape.. Musically, I'm in the boonies, so guitars in good condition are slim sometimes.. I'll keep an eye out for a green one though.. I didn't expect to run into this when I went out, thought I'd maybe find a 7 or 8 condition early 90s one for that price.. The thing with a lot of pawn shops, from my experiance, is they go by-the-book on pricing.. And blue book on most RGs is around $300.

I did see a near mint/mint UV7BK, but I didn't get a chance to pick it up + play it, and I wouldn't have spent the $$ anyways..

One thing that kinda bugs me, I must be spoiled or something.. I haven't owned a guitar with stock pickups in 6 years, and I wish I didn't have to wait to get pickups for this one.. The V7/V8 could be okay, I guess, if everything esle in the house didn't have Dimarzios.. They just sound dead to me, bland with too much bass/output.

I'm ordering the pickups tomorrow, probably a Norton + Paf Pro (chickening out on the really high output stuff), and I can't wait to hear it with those installed..

This ones a keeper, it's the first RG I've owned with the AANJ (talk about getting into stuff late), and the bubinga strip. I love it, plays like a dream, and after a little sharpening of the knife edges, stays in perfect tune..

Yup, I lucked out... Anyone have a Norton bridge pickup around here? I was wondering how it's gonna sound, hopefully more Fred-like than Tone Zone-like..

Ahh, it's actually being sold by that guy who got banned.
Doubt he still has it, or that he is worth doing business with anyway.

Well, thought I'd put up an update.. Got the PAF Pro and Norton tonight, stuck 'em in, and haven't put the guitar down since.. The Norton is very 'Fred'-like, but with a bit more punch.. I like it.. The PAF Pro is just what I expected..

She's a screamer, now..

Here's a pic of her completed:

White was the right choice, don't you agree?

Matching dots and headstocks would have been the killer final touch on those guitars. Still, they are sweet looking...congrats on finding one in good shape.

For anyone who's interested, there's a store up the street from my office here in Toronto that had both a blue sparkle and a green sparkle RG 570 hanging up last time i was in there. They looked like new old stock. I believe their asking price was around CAD$749, or about USD$500.

Here's their contact info if you're interested in pursuing either...
