SRV Strat on Ebay

Go to http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...tem=3756772882 and check out the serial number on that SRV strat... does that strike you as being remarkably low? or am I ignorant...

I've owned a couple of SRV's and quite honestly the guitar itself looks right. It's really hard to fake the left handed trem, and the neck and body look correct.
It almost looks to me as if he has Photoshoped out part of the serial number. If you enlarge the pictuer it gets slightly blurry just behind the remaining serial number, and one of the lines of grain actually ends abruptly there.
Why would he do this??? Who knows - some people get really weird about putting the serial numbers up because they are afraid of some kind of fraud. The cynical explanation could be that he is trying to conceal the serial number because it was obtained through ..... ahem.... less than legal means.
Weird.

The auction is already spooky because this is the UK e-bay site and the guitar is in the US .

The guy certainly COULD have Photoshoped it...there have been stranger things on EBay!

I've seen quite a few Strats where the serial numbers have been rubbed off- most of them in pawn shops and assorted 2nd hand stores. People are strange...anything's possible!

I'd definitely agree that it's a legit guitar (minus the pickguard, etc.) I guess you could always e-mail the guy and ask for the full serial #. If he refuses, then I'd run.

I rubbed the s/n off my strat because i didn't like it.

I've seen many people block out the s/n on ebay auctions for whatever reason - security, insurance, whatever.

As long as you state that you're willing to ship a guitar anywhere, the auction would show up on most local ebay sites.

If you enlarge the picture, it's clear that the SN is photoshopped out, since there is a square patch of a completely different woodgrain just after the number...
