Strat Question

I know very little about these things... I've got a California series strat I bought in 1998, brand new. It's still mint, as I play my Jem all the time. I'm curious to know what the difference is in one of these things as opposed to the other models of strats. All I know is that I walked into Musicians Friend (before they changed names) and picked it off the wall and bought it. It was my first guitar, but I never really bothered educating myself about it.

Anyone know much about this particular style?

i believe the california strat was an alder body with tex-mex's and vintage hardware. whereas a regular mex strat is poplar, crap ceramic singles, and the fender/ping tuners.
