String Breaking - Musicman JP6
I keep breaking strings on my musicman jp6, literally 1 a day sometimes more. The strings ALWAYS break at the bridge, yet there seems to be no wear on the saddles? I use 9
guage strings
(i use 9's on my RG's and i rarely ever break them so it's very unlikley to do with my playing style). Any help would be much appreciated

Check the saddles for burrs, thats more than likely your issue.

Re: String Breaking - Musicman JP6
Does that mean i have to replace the saddles or is there a way of smoothening them?

Re: String Breaking - Musicman JP6
I've noticed D'Addarios doing that lately on the .10 sets...the plain strings almost come unwound...

Worst case you may be able to get EBMM to replace the individual saddle. They're a great company. Ask about this on their forum as well; it might be a semi-common issue that they're already aware of.

Just make sure you "Contact Customer Service" first, or you will be flamed.

Re: String Breaking - Musicman JP6
Not to get too off topic here, but when I got my JP7 and the finish in the
neck joint
cracked twice in the first weekend customer service was very helpful. Although, I was a little disappointed that their first reply was "well, it doesnt affect the guitar at all, but if you want to send it in we will refinish it".

Re: String Breaking - Musicman JP6
I've just left it at my
local guitar shop
to get it looked at, at first look my tech said the design of the petrucci bridge is quite bad due to how steep the 'curve' is from the saddles where the strings run through, it's as if there's already tension there just when the strings are first put on which may cause them to break prematurely at the bridge. Anyhow he's going to file the saddles and see if that helps

Re: String Breaking - Musicman JP6
The angle of the string coming over the saddle, as "bad" as it may be, shouldn't be enough to cause breakage. If that were the case, then most string-through hard-tail guitars and guitars with wrap-around bridges would snap strings left and right. When there's a burr, the angle certainly doesn't help, but shouldn't be a cause by itself.

Not to mention there would probably be hundreds of other people having the same problem with thousands of posts here about it.
