Stringing a Squier Tele

Hey guys, I just bought a real cheap Squier Tele, just to have something that I can hack around on. I have never owned any type of Tele before, so when I went to restring it, I am having problems. The bridge is the 6 saddle type, so you can adjust the height of each string and the string enters at the back of the bridge, near the top surface of the guitar. I am trying to feed the string thru here, but it will not go thru as it hits the saddle. It's almost like you have to pre-bend the string or something in order to get it thru. There must be some sort of trick to doing this, as right now it feels very awkward. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure if this'll work on a tele bridge, but for strats, I push the saddles bridge-ward (towards the springs they're mounted on) so that the string has an easier time getting through. Hope that helps
