Suggestions for rock/metal guitars w/fixed bridge

Hey all,

I'm planning on getting a new electric very soon and am looking to get one w/a fixed bridge. I play in 2 hard rock bands and i've been using my American Standard Strat, but would like a more "metal" guitar. I can spend up to around $1200, and have had my eye on those Ibanez RGA121 prestige guitars. Any other suggestions? The key words here are "hard rock guitar", "fixed bridge", and "up to $1200"

Thanks all!

Re: Suggestions for rock/metal guitars w/fixed bridge

Personally, I'd say that the RGA121 is your best bet. With a price range of $1200, you'll have enough to get the guitar (which I've seen online brand new for $900) and a set of your favorite pickups from Dimarzios to EMGs (and you'll still be under that $1200 mark). To me, the RG is the perfect metal guitar and I just installed EMGs into my RG321 and it kicks so much arse. The EMG85 is definitely my preferred pickup for both the neck and the bridge because it's just more lively and juicy than the EMG81 and you get a much richer tone.

Ibanez RG's def have a "metal" vibe going for them and the RG fixed bridge guitars mentioned are pretty cool. For a shorter scale type the Gibson SG isnt a bad HardRock guitar. Dont know if it has the look you want though.

Re: Suggestions for rock/metal guitars w/fixed bridge

Since you play in a band, I'd say you just HAVE to somehow get an RGA121 in black (they are available in Japan - check the Ibanez Japan website). That way you have an RGA121 (got one, it's awesome) but are the only one around with one in black which is *the* metal color anyway.

And the bridge on the RGA121 is waaaaaay better than the RGT42DXFX or Japanese Jackson in my not so humble opinion.

Re: Suggestions for rock/metal guitars w/fixed bridge

I agree. Plus the RGA is japan made while the RGT42DXFX is either Korean or Indonesian. Since this person said that they have $1200 to spend then I took that to mean that they were looking for a fairly high end guitar. Had they said that their limit was $200-$500 then I probably would've suggested something along the lines of an RGT42 or an RG321MH with modded pickups (dual EMG 85's are the shhhh...yeah...).

Re: Suggestions for rock/metal guitars w/fixed bridge

I think drum city has an ESP "LTD" DV8 guitar for like 700 bucks, that's a pretty metal guitar, comes with 24 frets/Duncans I don't know what else. They had a Charvel star custom for like 1100 which is pretty cheap and a good rock type guitar. Other than that, Ibanez RG hardtails look pretty cool. Why not get a Paul Gilbert sig.? Those aren't too expensive and kick ass.

I say go for the RGA121, but I'm biased since I have one....but you will need to replace the pickups.

+1, the slsmg would warrant a serious look (in addition to the RGA).
