Swirl on a strat

Hey guys I have a few questions im hoping you could help me out with, first off has anyone ever seen a swirled strat before? Ive been looking forever and havent found any. And im wanting to see if I can find someone who can do a good swirl and all I know of is sims custom shop but ive sent them a few emails and havent got anything back yet so Idk. So does anyone know of anyone else that does decent ones. Im not looking for something in the herc range of quality swirls because simply I cant afford to spend that much just on a paint job right now. But any input or advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated. I really want to have it done by next year when the band starts to tour.

Fender did them themselves back before Ibanez - I believe they were the first ATD swirls ever - before Vai and the JEMs.

I like the top swirl. James TYler does some sort of weird finish on his guitars. I don't know if it's done by the conventional swirling process though.

I had a red/black/white "Bowling Ball" Strat for awhile. Very cool guitars really.

I saw a nice one once, at www.wangotango.nl > x'ology > Squier Multicolor
(at the bottom of the first list)

And apparently he did it himself, more or less. Doesn't look half bad I think.

yeah, I remember reading about it somewhere. Darren came to fender and offered them to put out a line of swirled fenders. So they produced a 250 guitars line and called them bowling ball model. Then when steve vai started indorsing Ibanez, he asked them to locate the guy that did those fenders and do a couple of models for him.

Yeah, totally agree - I didn't actually say they were good......

Mind you, I think what Fender were trying to do was a sort of faux stone finish, not a swirl in the JEM sense. The Red/Black one ain't too bad.

The actual Strat they swirled was one of the most cost-cutting Strats Fender had ever done - they couldn't even be bothered with the angled jack route - straight out of the scratchplate. Oddly enough, for all the corner cutting they did, they're a pretty good Strat!
