Tell me if you think this would look stupid

I am looking to build my own neckthru Jackson Kelly 6 string.. So im gonna have someone build me a neck. Unfortunately I dont like dots at all, and I dont know about going with a blank board, and I dont feel like spending lots for a custom design cause I have to shell out $200+ for my other guitars inlays.. But I do already have a fretboard I bought awhile back..

Would this look stupid? I dont know, vine isnt exactly original, but it would save me money probably. I probably will end up just going with a blank board tho =[

Looks like you're trying to compensate for something. Put large abalone dots on it at the top of the frets, that would look better IMO.

lol.. Such manners on these forums =/ was just asking for an opinion.. Theres little chance I would do it anyways, as the vine inlay looks pretty fruity IMO, but it would cost me less..

a blue vine on a blue kelly is kinda wrong, the kelly is too mean looking!
thats why they look so damn good with sharkfins
have you considered side dots? or sharkies?

sharkies are lame. everyone has sharkies.. its gonna have side dots (the actual side dots, not offset dots) but I think a plain board might just be too boring and have no originality to it..

how about dots that start offset on one side of the board, then move to the other side as you go up/down the board? for example, the third fret dot is offset to the bass side and the 24th dot is offset all the way to the treble side. connect the dots

i've always like this idea..

side dots or sharfins, they are cheaper and look cooler, i have sharfins on my rg and i love em and i love side dots so much i've been thinking of buying a side dot ibanez

I liked that idea for stars, much like the Apex I, but I would get something better in the middle

But doing something large like that would be too costly, Im trying to keep this project cheap

An Ibanez vine on a Jackson fretboard......I think the JCF would fall over dead as one!

How about small hollow circles, like capital letter "O"s? That would look cool if you could get brass ones. I have purple heart dots in one of my 7620 necks, those look cool, and sublte as well. Less subtle might be different color dots, I have that too and it looks cool. Not very serious, but cool

On that body style, I think larger "block" style inlays look best. The tree of life (or vine) is certainly not an Ibanez exclusive, but I don't think it "fits" with that guitar.
