That's what I call a Quality guitar, ha ha ha ...

So, some of you might allready have heard of Ed Roman on jemsite. Well, I am a newcomer and wanted to have some more insight into this guy. Just look at what I came across :

http://www.harmony-central.com/Guita...r-Copy-01.html

it's a user review based on a Ed Roman custom guitar, that is by itself funny the way it is written, besides the fact the guy was screwed for 2000 dollars, ouch, I feel compassionate with him ....

Way to go, heh

(re) ouch

The way I see it: if you pay $2000 for a guitar, or any instrument for that matter, without trying it first you deserve to get screwed! How stupid can you get?! I'm not standing up for Ed's substandard work or customer support, but the guy should have tried it, or at least a guitar by the same maker before making a purchase.

There's a saying in Swedish that comes to mind: don't buy a pig in a bag. Meaning should be clear to anyone...

I think he mail-ordered it and had to pay a certain amount upfront before the guitar was built. i think most custom builders work that way. he's basically stuck with it after he commissioned Roman to build it.

My point exactly. He mail ordered a guitar without having tried one beforehand. Bad move.

I do agree with your point, there is just one thing that puzzles me. For a 2000 dollar guitar there usually IS somekind of quality control involved ! See, if I order by mail a Vigier Excalibur Custom tomorrow for about that price I am 99.999999% sure the guitar will be top quality (assuming OF COURSE I know what a Vigier is, how they sound and that I am sure I want one). Their quality control is so strict it's gonna be top notch. If not, well, most serious companies have a "return policy" where you can return your good and claim money back if unsatisfied .... this didn't seem to be the case either ...

Back to your point, I agree, myself I would rather try out the guitar before I buy it. OK here is the scenario : let's assume I really want a JEM7vwh, have played dozen of them and know it's what I want. Should I refrain from post-ordering one from let's say Rich, just because I wouldn't be able to try it out first ? Or should I assume 1) that a factory new 7vwh should in 99.9999% of all cases be good (except for setup and stuff I can do on y own) and 2) Rich as a matter of fact (it's just an example) looks serious enough, will set it up, and even has a return policy ....

So I DO think one should be able to order a 2000 dollar guitar by mail (knowing what you want eand having tried the model before) without geteting screwed ....
