It seems Tom was REALLY PO'd that you could buy one of his guitars new for 1600-1700 dollars, from authorized dealers no less, and he completely wigged out (as we all saw). Those days are evidently over now, and Anderson dealers have been told not to sell the guitars for less than what Tom thinks they are worth. So, Andersons should be plentiful, but it will be much harder to get one for less than 3000 going forward.
Welcome to 6 months ago.

New Droptops have always been in the 2500-3000 range...just like Suhr. Most builders have MAP pricing these days. What I believe Tom was upset about was dealers gouging pricing when he announced he was going to a 1 man operation.

I think you are mistaken about why he wanted to downsize.

All I know is what Anderson dealers have told me since I haven't spoken to Tom in a year myself. And, new Andersons were very easy to get for 1700 when he made his initial announcement.

Anderson dealers were spinning it anyway they could to command higher than normal pricing. Not 1 dealer I spoke to would give the same story.

$1700.00 for a new Andy a year ago was possible for a very basic solid color model. That same guitar is $1950-2000 now.

Re: The end of Anderson Guitarworks

A Droptop in the $3000 range strikes me as a great deal - Andersons are as good as Strat style guitars come (okay, Mr IbanezNorthwest will swear blind that Suhrs are better, but hey, I got here first.....), and even translated to Aussie Dollars, that's not embarrassingly more than a really good Fender, and less than a large part of what the Fender Custom Shop guitars go for, so I say Good On Yer Tom, you make great guitars - please keep doing so until I can afford that Bora-Burst Hollow Drop Top!

This thread calls for pics

That's my 1998 Classic. I've got an '05 Suhr Standard. It would be impossible to determine which was a better guitar. I suppose the guitar you own is the better one! Anderson pickups (H3) take the cake IMO.

Seems like I'm buying various Ibanez models looking for "the one"; it is not the case with something like Suhr or TAG.

If it was not for money's sake guys like Vai, Satch and Petrucci would play these kinds of guitars.

Wow, I should have picked up that Anderson I saw at the Guitar Center in Nashville a few weeks ago. It was used, but it played so well! And it was only $950...

Couldn't have said it better. I just don't know about Ibanezes these days. As I become a better player, it's becoming more apparent that Ibanezes aren't the guitars I thought they once were. Now granted, we're comparing some of the best instruments in the world to Ibanezes (great guitars for the money, especially the 660's, etc), but still...
