The Tele and Drop D

I was doing some tooling around on the internet and ran across some info that had me a little perplexed. David Gilmour usually uses his Red Strat. Tom Morello usually uses some Strat/Superstrat mongrel guitars. But they both have Telecasters on hand for their songs that require drop D tuning. Is there any particular reason that the Tele seems the appropriate choice for Drop D? It just seems strange to completely change guitar types for an alternate tuning.

Re: The Tele and Drop D

I often do exactly that myself..
but thats just because my Tele is the only fixed bridge guitar I own and
continually retuning floating bridge guitars for alt tunings is kind of a pain in the ****
no idea why big rich rockstars with probably huge guitar collections would have to do the same. And no real clue about why telecasters specifically.

No trem, no tuning issues - I think you'll find your answer right there!

Re: The Tele and Drop D

Teles are the greatest for dropped tunings I actually use one for drop D and drop C. The neck is nice and thick, its tone is real nice, throw a duncan hot rail in it and let it rip.

That doesn't really make sense why they would switch style of guitar. You could simply make one of your regular axes be your drop d.

That however makes perfect sense now that I think about it.

I plan on doing just that for my next guitar purchase. I've been madly in love with Tele's ever since I got to play my step-uncle's old school Equire. Unfortunately, I'm also in love with Ibanez's so I had to make a tough choice for this recent guitar purchase.
