Re: Washburn N6 - comments please!

that seems to be the popular opinion. people don't like the pickguard. probably why it is so hard to get info.

great guitar + cosmetic "issue" = no interest from the public.

for the money, it should be nice (fingers crossed ). i have ZERO experience with the Washburn Custom Shop's work.
i've been gassing for a Floyd equiped strat style guitar (sold my last Strat, sadly) for awhile now and this seems like it might fit the bill. i'm basically going with the idea that it is a tricked out HSS "strat-like" guitar with 22frets and a floyd. i was also considering the ESP MW600 that has alot of the same features and a cheaper price tag and found the same problem while looking for info on it was a similar cosmetic "issue" (the skulls) must've kept people from buying it and giving a review.
i read on the washburn forum a post from the guy who made those pickguards when i was asking what bridge pup was in the N6 (BL500). small world.
i like the pickguard - it's different and fresh but the strange thing to me is the switch position. that is an odd place for it but it might actually be more comfortable or easier to get to...hmmm.. have to see when i get it.

i have lots of Ibanez RG's and a couple Jems - this time i just want to add something different to my "family".

I think the N6 will hold it's value better than the ESP would.

I don't think it looks that bad, and a pick guard is an easy swap.

Re: Washburn N6 - comments please!

There were N4s made in alder at the beginning of the run. They had a poly finish and often a Kahler designed trem. The later black N4s had a more satin finish and were done on Ash.

Also, all Washburns made in the US are now from the "Custom Shop" and have been for some time. Washburn does not have any manufacturing in the US that it does not designate as Custom Shop. (As opposed to Gibson or Fender that have US manufacturing and a separate Custom Shop availability).

Mine must be Ash then as it has the satin finish.

I do like the maple board on that N6. Guess I can't complain about my ebony, but maple looks so much nicer.

i would hope a USA Custom Shop would hold its value over a Korean production line guitar.
not sure if anyone noticed but the N4 just shot up in price AGAIN from $1319 to $1599!!!!!!! what the hell kind of a price hike is that when nothing has changed on the instrument and Nuno still hasn't landed a major label (last time i checked)?? it was around $1199 last year when they hiked the price up last time. how do they quantify such a hike?? if Ibanez hiked their prices that much - we would be freaking out! $300 in less than 2 yrs is just crazy IMHO.
i feel a little better paying a couple hundred less (about $220 less w/ free shipping) than street price for the N6 especially seeing the price of the standard N4 going up at such a steep rate.
i don't see the pickguard being an easy swap - after market guards aren't available so i would need a custom made guard. i guess that isn't difficult but surely not cheap. i actually like the design. if i was ever to change the guard out it would be to replace it after it is seriously worn or hideously corroded.

i'm excited about this guitar! i actually like the idea of noone else owning one or at least the chance of me ever seeing another one is extremely slim.
the idea of saying i have a USA Custom Shop guitar is kinda cool too. anyone own a USA Washburn or have experience with them?

Re: Washburn N6 - comments please!

The only live use I've seen of the N6 was in the latest Rascal Flats video. Guitar player is using a cream one with the brass pickguard.

That is a heck of a price jump.

I know Nuno's latest project is with Perry from Janes Addiction. Don't know if that is a major label project or not.

i think i saw that one - he has the N5 i think w/ 3 singles instead of a HSS pup config.
so Population 1 is no more?
interesting about Perry and Nuno. i saw them play together while i was at Winter NAMM '05 and they played well together pulling out Sympathy for the Devil and a couple others. Nuno just rocks!!
have you seen the video for "Megaton" yet? it has a couple odd parts but the main riff and the individual solos near the end sound awesome and he rips out a tastey little lead at the end of it. i saw it on the Population 1 myspace page but i'm sure it is on their website. i liked it so much i added it to my personal myspace page.

well they ditched the name population 1 and are now called 'dramagods'. weird name, but those guys seriously kick ass. that cd is in constant rotation in my player. definitely a huge change from the extreme days, but that's a good thing imo, cause i could barely stand cherone's voice until that last extreme cd.

Yeah, I would say Dramagods is probably the best thing he's done since Extreme.

If you hop around YouTube, there is some concert footage of them from one of the big shows this year. The name of the band is Satellite Party.

Re: Washburn N6 - comments please!

Dramagods! that song (Megaton) is Dramagods, not Population 1. d'oh.
i like their stuff and i haven't ordered the CD from their site yet.
it's the same band members with a different name as P1 isn't it?

i also think it is the best stuff he's done since Extreme but i liked the P1 stuff as well. they played the "Galaxy of the Stars" show i saw at Namm '05 and rocked it. Nuno hosted the show so he played with most of the other artists that played (G. Lynch, S. Sabo, W. Dimartini, M. Anthony, P. Farrel and others). i wish i had video of that show. there were a couple video cams running and i don't remember the websites they were suppossed to get posted to.
