Weight of a Guitar

Hey guys,

I'm selling my LTD EC-1000, does anyone have an idea of how much one of these weighs? Actually, any idea how much the guitar in a case would weigh? That's how I'll be sending it.
I'm sending it via Parcelforce and you have to put the weight in when you book a collection.

Cheers
Joe

Re: Weight of a Guitar

When shipping strat-type guitars I figure 30 lbs with box and packing.
That way you're covered even if it's a few lbs lighter, but that's just me.

Re: Weight of a Guitar

I just got off the phone with ESP. They said the guitar will weigh between 6 to 9 pounds.
For shipping purposes that is the weights they use.

It just dawned on me that you guys don't use the Pounds (except for spending),

So basically it will be equivelent to (1) Prince Charles Cuff Link.

Re: Weight of a Guitar

Did you phone ESP on my behalf? That was very kind of you!

9lbs is around 4.1 kg, so that plus the case, if I put the weight as around 9kg, I should be fine.

Cheers guys

My Ibanez J Custom and flightcase weighed in at 7.5 kgs, when it went through airports.

Re: Weight of a Guitar

As one of the other members suggest, 30 lbs with case should cover the shipping cost. Usually, the guitar/case/peanuts/box weighs in around 25lbs. If you're calculating the price of shipping, be sure to also note/select the dimensions of the box, otherwise you'll get a big surprise when you pay for shipping.

Re: Weight of a Guitar

Not sure about ParcelForce, but usually the weight doesn't really have that huge of an impact on price. The dimensions are most important, because the limiting factor of how much they can load onto a truck is almost always volume, not weight. If they have an estimator, just see how big of an estimate of overestimating the price is.

It is a little hard to say with out knowing what kind of case it is, cases can weight vastly different amounts. One of my cases when empty feels like it weighs more by itself than my other cases with the guitars in them.
