Went to buy a new metronome yesterday
.... and walked out with a 2004 American Deluxe Strat, H-S-S QMT in tobacco burst. It's in pretty good nick, a couple of tiny chips in the finish, both at the edges and not too visible, polishing swirls and that's about it.
Ebony fretboard
, noiseless single coils and
locking tuners
. 50th anniversary neck plate since it's a 2004.
Half price against a new one.
I won't manage to spend time with it until Saturday unfortunately.
Pics shortly (actually I think I owe shots of the entire squad).
Oh, and I did get the metronome.

Re: Went to buy a new metronome yesterday
Were the pickups Hot Noiseless or Vintage Noiseless? B/c (imo) the vintage don't have a high enough output and can't do distorted too well (unless you're doing very light distortion). The Hot Noiseless, on the other hand, do cleans AMAZINGLY well and give a nice bite with the distortions. I've had nothing but good experiences with Hot Noiseless.
Or they could be Samarium Cobalt Noiseles... but those weren't around in '04.

Nice one, Davy. What shop did you get it from? TOMS? Please post pics asap.

Re: Went to buy a new metronome yesterday
Thanks for the kind words all (especially about the metronome).
CoBL - anything I can find in the literature says they're SCN singles - comments relate to the specific 50th Anniversary Strat, although there are references to Hot Samarium Cobalt Noiseless as well. This is a variant, but it appears to be specced out exactly the same. It doesn't look to me like the guts of this guitar have ever been exposed, so whatever was stock at the time is still there. I'll have to do some research for a definitive answer though.
Chimp - thanks man. Music Connection (dunno when you were here last, they possibly postdate your last visit) are just down the road from me. The store went into an old diving school (!) and is four storeys of instruments. Great guitar selection (a mate just bought his third
Brian Moore
there) and excellent service all round. I've never been a huge fan of TOMS actually, they're much more into the performance side than ageing noodlers...
Off on business at the mo, so I'll only be able to post pics after the weekend (assuming I can figure out what to do).

Re: Went to buy a new metronome yesterday
hmm... that's funny, I'll have to research that, but unfortunately I'm tied up right now studying cancer cells (yeah, I'm a nerd).
If you find an answer, please post it here, I'd be interested in seeing that.

Re: Went to buy a new metronome yesterday
Photos here:
http://s194.photobucket.com/albums/z69/DavyH_photos/
Warning: quality of photographs not great and file size a bit high to post here without using a wee bit much bandwidth. I have a very cheap digital camera and some very expensive 35mm equipment. I really don't like digicams much.
I only lined up the better half of the squad. The others are 3 Epi Goths (V, Explorer and G-400) which I use as wall hangings but are all fun to play, my beloved's Hello Kitty Squier and an Applause electro-acoustic which is considerably better than the price suggests. I'll probably post them at some stage for completeness.
CoBL: Checked the pups, definitely SCNs - I'm fairly sure they were only issued in '04 though, so this will be one of the original sets. Very nice indeed, and the S1 switching is excellent.
Distantshore: Quite right, but the metronome was .... erm ...... pricey!
Scotte za: I'm looking at a H&K combo as well. Space constraints don't justify a half-stack and the Roland I'm using is OK as a
practice amp
at best. How's the H&K treating you?

I like the more traditional looking ones, like your black one, but that's a really nice guitar!
And, you knew about
This
, right? ;-)

Yes, thanks Jim. The metronome was for the drum corps in the pipe band - they got jealous of the one I bought for the pipers. The practice facilities are a bit rudimentary though and online timekeeping won't be seen there for a while!
The black one's a VG by the way. The 7VWH and the VG are my favourite playing guitars, there's something about the resonance you get from an
alder body
that mahogany or a maple cap don't give you.
