Re: What are YOUR problems with guitars?

I really don't waste my time thinking about guitars.I play them.
My guitars give me everything I want,I can set up them properly in the way I want.
Don't think..................................play it.

When I play with emotion, the guitar I use doesn't matter, the feeling still translates. When I'm not feeling it, I get picky about all sorts of things.

Re: What are YOUR problems with guitars?

Agree with alot of the points in the original post.

I'd like to add that pickup manufactures should all adopt an EMG-style quick connect system. Hell, we should start making snap on pots too. But at least a universal wiring color system would be a nice too.

a little nit-picky, but it would be nice to see a better looking, polished tremolo block and trem claw. Rather than folded metal for the claw, it could look so much more pretty as a cast piece.

And a selection of tremolo bars of various bends and lengths would be cool too.

The quick connect system would be an awesome idea, but the problem is it would be made cheaply...meaning a lot of boutique makers would probably remove it anyway so they can terminate the joint better.

It's just as well there are people who do "waste" their time thinking about guitars.

Otherwise you'd be sat playing a lute. Try doing divebombs with one of those and expecting it to stay in tune.

Re: What are YOUR problems with guitars?

+1 on the custom bit. More and more I'm thinking its gonna be Warmoth for me or nothing when it comes to buying a new guitar.

Lets see;

Volume knobs - why are these always in the way? The placement of the volume knob on the RG is bad if I want to do anything that requires palm muting the higher strings. Palm mute the low E = pinky and ring finger are already touching the volume knob. Palm mute anything else = fumbling around trying to find a comfortable position for my fingers between the two knobs. Let's not even talk about having to do this fast. Gibsons are the only guitar manufacturer that seems to understand where knobs should go -- and they gots four of 'em!!!

That's probably my only long-standing pet-peeve.

Re: What are YOUR problems with guitars?

my problems with guitar..? let see:
1. too many of them, life is too short to try ( and own) each one of them.
2. my mood is keep changing ( the problem is on me, not the guitar...damn), like these days, I keep looking on some nice LP standards..... it's only a matter of time before i ended up buying one.
3. I can and only comfortable with Ibanez RG, especially with original/ super wizard neck, that's the fact and I knew it, yet I'm still buying others like caparison, jackson, and soon a les paul. which actually i know that my non-ibanez guitars will stay in the hardcase for the rest of its life.

ok, now technical problems section:
1. periodically guitar needs set up, I just never found any guitar that set-up once and it's good for the rest of it's life, climate changed, temperature changed, the once well set-up guitar will suddenly get buzzing around, that's one thing really pissed me off, because I CAN'T do set up on my own.
2. changing strings on floyd- equipped guitars, oh boy.. I wish I'm a guitar hero and have guitar tech so I don't need to do it on my own.

that's all from my side.

Yep,

I would just go down the custom route. It will do 2 things for you.

You will get exactly the guitar you want.

You will learn to be very patient, as you realise that perfection does take time to achieve.

In my opinion the placement of the volume knob and switch is perfect. I personally wouldnt have it any other way.

Jokes aside though, custom is the way to go for people like us dude. I'm the same way. I find something wrong with every "company" guitar I play. That's why out of the five (soon to be six) electrics that I have, only one is truly a company guitar (my new Schecter). And even that is only because I wanted to try out owning a V shape for a while before deciding if it's worth diggin' out the cash and effort for a custom one.
Go play an Ernie Ball JPMM6 and tell me that it's not heavenly. You don't
need to go custom, just find a company that has a higher build quality than
you are used to. For me it was an Ernie Ball Music Man guitar.
