Re: What is with the Gibson Les Paul craze?

Anyone of you see the custom SG neck thru that is for sale on TGP? The owner had the neck profile based off one of his RG Prestige.

Image an SG, neck thru (vs set neck) with a Prestige neck!

I want it soooo bad, but I would have to play something like that first.

I don't agree with the tuning one (not always true) and the versatility one is subjective, but all the others are true for me too.

Why are people who cannot appreciate the greatness of a Les Paul always compelled to bash them? It's like Les Paul envy or something.

I'm not bashing. I have a lot of respect for them but because of the disadvantages like wieght, fret access, and so on I choose not to invest in one.

Why are people, who are not totally agreed with, so proned to call any criticism bashing?

Remember where you are man. If tomorrow Vai had a signature LP that was pink and had a vine Les Pauls would be the greatest guitars and all the QC and weight issues would be fixed overnight.

Well personally, I don't even like Vai's music much nor do I own or want to own a JEM.

Re: What is with the Gibson Les Paul craze?

I'll never buy a ANY signature model, I'd rather build one to my specs and be original. I'm not bashing the Les Paul guitar either, this is only my opinion of playing them over the years...I actually met Les Paul and I've seen him play live. Not many can say this and he's still amazing, but I do love the SG, it's one of my favorite guitars of all time. He actually created that model as well, It was called "Les Paul SG" in the beginning. All in all I have never liked Les Paul model and nothing can change that for me, I've played so many of them and only ONE stood out for me but it is not worth $3500.oo...

Actually, as far as I know, he did not create the SG. The Les Paul SG was made later by Gibson after discontinuing the origianl LP in 1962. When Les Paul saw this was upset because he had nothing to do with it. He asked that his name be taken off the instrument. It wasn't easy because to get the LP made he had basically signed away his life. This is one of the reasons that the original LP came back in 1968 I think. That and that people like Page, Duane Alman, Billy Gibbons and so on were using a guitar that wasn't being made anymore.

Anyways, I agree Lordgrendel, the SG is a great guitar I miss mine.

*PS: feel free to correct me if I am wrong. It's been a while since I had read all of this stuff.

Re: What is with the Gibson Les Paul craze?

Les Paul himself hated the SG. Gibson made it so people wouldnt cry about weight and upper fret access and wanted to keep his name on it. He didnt care that he had nothing to do with it, he didnt want anything to do with it.

That's what I meant by "he had nothing to do with it." He wasn't involved nor wanted to be.

Thanks for re-enforcing what I said.

clarifying, re-enforcing, whatever you want to call it.

There is a difference between having nothing to do with something and not wanting anything to do with something.
I had nothing to do with Kim Kardashian's sex tape, but I didnt want anything to do with Paris Hilton's.
