Re: What is with the Gibson Les Paul craze?

Re: What is with the Gibson Les Paul craze?

personally, i like the gibson les paul style/look. but i don't like the fact that it does not have a tremolo, so i bought myself a PRS Tremonti Signature Model (not the Korean SE Model) and i got the world's most versatile and lovely 50 year old design guitar that has the modern look and feel and sound. and hey, it can do what the ibanez S5470F Prestige (which i own) can do! Not so heavy as the gibson and it sounds like a guitar should sound..

Re: What is with the Gibson Les Paul craze?

I'll spend my 2 cents... use the right tool for the job. I always liked Les Pauls cosmetically but didn't know if I'd like playing one, so I bought an Epiphone Les Paul. Loved it--loved the way it played, loved the way it sounded. So I got a Gibson or two, and just recently a couple Gibson Custom Les Pauls ('58 VOS, '59 VOS). Please keep in mind I don't try to play Satriani or Vai songs on them--I switch to my JEM or RG guitars for those. However, when I want some gritty blues or swamp boogie, I go for the hunk of mahogany.

A friend of mine was complaining that every time he wanted to play a SRV song he had to re-tune down to e-flat. I responded... get two guitars. He responded, what about Rain Song... I responded... get three guitars.

Use the right tool for the job... I hate the look of my PRS and hate that every death metal drop-C tuning loser bought a PRS (or Schecter) before they could even play, but boy do I love the way it sounds. We make compromises...

I notice now that they just crank these things out by the millions so the noobs can buy a piece of rock and roll history. Whatever Gibson used to be, they are not anymore... Same with Fender.

A company today isn't the same as they were 50 years ago before being wildly succesful? SHOCK!

As opposed to the millions of guitars Ibanez cranks out so the noobs can buy what their favorite player has, then replace the pick ups with whatever Dimarzzios have their favorite player's name associated with them.

We need more progressive small independent companies who are willing to make Fender style guitars out of cutting boards and chunks of wood they find in Home Depot dumpsters. Right Dino?

I just heard a rumour that Les Paul used to prefer playing Ibanez RG's over Les Pauls, I could be wrong - don't take as fact

Re: What is with the Gibson Les Paul craze?

They are wildly successful because they are the only thing presented to you when you go to the store. Just because I have a soft spot for Ibanez doesn't make them any better.

Want to play guitar? Here's you choice buddy! The wall on the left 649 variations of the Les Paul! The wall on the right 582 Variations of the Fender Strat. If you want to be weird, there are three Chinese Ibanez in the corner and Korean Schecter. Want to be really weird and lose all Cred? Find someone to hand craft you an awesome on of a kind. Your friends will think you are crazy and you will be laughed off of your favorite forums.

Ibanez and Schecter are just variations on a Strat. That's why they are referred to as super-strats.

I'm not sure what kind of guitar stores you go into but most small shops can't afford to stock Gibson, and most big shops will have more than a few other brands. Hell, selling Fender opens them up to Gretsch, Jackson,Guild, DArmond, EVH, and Tacoma.

I have not seen that anywhere. as a matter of fact most guitar stores here have a wall of "low cost" ibanez, ltd, schecter some Epis and Mex Fenders and than a couple PRS , USA Fenders , and Gibson as well as Jem or JS behind the counter. Also the beginner will most probably shy away from a $1k + guitar to start with.

Also the handcrafted statement is untrue just look at toneboys new guitar and the reactions he got.

As the OP, I can't believe this thread I started is still going.

Should I be sorry I asked the question in the first place? ** ducks **
