What is with the Gibson Les Paul craze?

I've had a brief history with my LP, and actually it's an Edwards' clone, but one I really enjoy. I've been a HUGE Ibanez fan for a while and decided only recently to branch out and grab kind of a one-of-each lately.
So, I nabbed a USA Strat-Deluxe, the Edwards LP, and recently another Edwards product.
Anyway, there is a certain vibe that the Strat has that my Ibani don't quite have, and very much the same with the LP, it's just got its own voice. How many albums were cut using Les Pauls? There is a quintessential sound that they provide. You either like 'em or you don't. I see where they fit in, and they have their own flavor, like was said previously.

Yep....there ARE other great guitars that have another name on the headstock. Fender have their own vibe, that no other has. I have a Bacchus Les Paul Goldtop, styled on a '59 Les Paul and i like it too. Might be hard to get up to higher frets and thicker neck, but it still has it's own vibe too. The Les Paul design still looks the business and probably always will.

I do have a Les Paul Epiphone with Gibson 490r/498t pickups that i use for BB king kind of blues, some classic rock and Kiss song. I also have a japanese guitar for faster shredding metal.

I can compare my Les Paul to my '78 corvette (classic, not too much for performance but it's a legend) and my japanese with my new hyundai Genesis coupe(agile, fun to play with,confortable,powerful enough but reliable).
