What kind of bridge is most conducive to fast playing?

Does anyone find that certain kinds of bridge make fast playing easier/more comfortable than other kinds do?

It comes after noticing that I can't get the same kind of picking speed out of a hardtail that I can on a Floyd Rose or similar locking system. Has anyone else had this experience?

Paul Gilbert uses a hard tail pretty much all the time these days. The power is in you mate!! It might be that you are just more used to the guitars with the floyd... or you are more used to the string spacing on the floyd??

I guess the bridge doesn't matter too much, the neck is more important.

The player is the most important. Good guitar players can play any guitar well. DiMeola can kill on a Les Paul, Gilbert can on an Ibanez, Yngwie can on a Strat, John 5 can on a Tele, etc etc.

You may find the some bridges are more comfortable for you to play based upon the height of the bridge off the body.

For example, a Les Paul tune-a-matic is higher off the body than a fixed Strat style bridge.

I can play basically well on most guitars, but when it comes to *really* fast stuff, Les Pauls (for example) don't really cut it. Then again I've not played one in years so...

Thing is I find out of the hardtails, the strat style one to be my favourite, but some floyds I seem to be able to play damn fast right-hand rhythm work. Ultimately the bridge has at least some effect cos of how your palm sits on it.

i find on my fender the (dunno what there called) little alen key grub hight adguster thingies hurt like a biach as they stick out so prefer to play my jem (any solution to this problem greatly apreaciated)

I play faster with tune-o-matic style bridges if the neck isn't too fat on the guitar. Or I should say that I feel like I'm playing faster, if there is an actual difference who knows?
