Where's Ibby? - Would you use something like this?

Hey Everyone, I have an idea for a website and was wondering if you would use or find useful a site like this. Here's the gist of it:

* Similar to a site like carfax and/or Where's George, but for guitars (possibly other instruments).

* Ability to enter serials number, pictures, notes (like repairs or modifications), interesting stories or history of your guitars.

It could be a cool resource for someone selling or buying. I don't know, just thought it might be neat to buy a guitar 10 years down the road, log on and see where it's been.

I'm open to suggestions, positive or negative (please don't flame me), or other types of constructive criticism. Thanks in advance for your input.

-Andy

Sounds cool. Only issue is getting people to log in and log this stuff. Most car shops that fix stuff report to carfax (in which carfax pay them to) and carfax have their own used car lots to moderate all this and keep track.
It's a very cool idea but most people won't bother having to create a username just to post where the guitar has been and what modifications have been done on it. Plus if you started the website now and someone went on and stored their guitar then thats just the beginning, we'd have no idea where it's been for years and years and whats been done to it because there are no previous member logs.

I have a hardcopy, a piece of paper for every guitar I own/ owned.
It's like a birth certificate, includes :
basic details of the guitar : wood, neck type, pickups, color, etc...
some modification I made : .....
date of purchase : sometime yes but forgoten easily.
name of the guitar : I always named my guitars
serial number : most important

I put it on a file folder... so almost every guitar I ever owned is there ( it's not every guitars but almost. because I only started doing this like 1 year a go).
It's fun that I can still open the folder and see my ex-guitars

Anyway, let me know when it's done, I would glad to join it.

I'd use it as well, as I, too, am still quite cross about my custom Gibson Explorer which was stolen back on 20-JAN-1990 from my house in the Portland area. (Black, with metallic gold stripes, if anyone has ever seen it! ) What I lacked was the foresight to record its serial number. I wish I hadn't been so young and naive back then.

Anyway, I think it is absolutely a fantastic idea. It would be fascinating to be able to track the history of a guitar through a centralized database.
