I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say "the one you plug into a high gain amp".

Any Pro series or better should have no problems bringing the brootalz, but if it were me, and I had unlimited money, I'd go for a USA Select SL2H MAHQ Soloist.

Rock on!

Best way to find out? Try the guitars out. Shop around, read the reviews etc. But it all boils down to what feels and sounds good to you.

Go with the sharpest pointiest guitar that smokes when the strings play an open e chord. If it smokes then its metal! No smoke then move on to the next guitar.

I have a few Jacksons including a DK2. My advice is to get a DK2T or change the trem to an original FR if you get the DK2, because the Jackson trem just isn't stable enough IMO.

I second that as I have a SL2H-MAH with a flamed maple cap. It's definitely a great guitar for metal, and probably my favorite in the herd. It just plays and sounds GREAT! If you go a little higher than $1000, you may be lucky and score one used and in good condition.

Good luck!

I should also mention that I'm currently awaiting a SLS3 (super light soloist, MIJ) to arrive. It has a mahogany body/neck and is equipped with SD 59s in both positions. Should be pretty good for metal and the string through configuration should make it sustain like crazy. Got it for $1049.00 new

You can't go wrong with a midrange jackson, but if you can hold on to your money for a bit longer, I'd really wait till I'd have enough for a US model.

I've just ordered a custom US Jackson for myself... for chistmas ofcorse!

Heh, nice. I think that's probably my favorite pickup configuration at this point.

Very nice indeed. Thanks for posting dude. So basically how long does it take Jackson to process your order ie receive initial contact from you right up until you get the guitar. Maybe you don't have an exact date that you will be getting the guitar?

Don't have the exact date. It'll take them a month or two to get back to me with a quote, at which point I can change a few things if it's too expensive etc. Apparently the average waiting from making an order to it arriving at your door, is about 6-8 months. Obviously, the more complex the guitar is, the more time it'll take. If you order a cutom graphic for example, that's a REAL time stretcher.

I can't believe you're not going with the custom shop logo on the headstock!!!

I'd want everyone to see that logo

I'd also have gone for the crop circle inlays, but that's just me

Pretty much the truth! If its armed with real Duncans, has good fret dressing, and plays well to YOU, odds are its gonna be a winner. I myself am partial to the TB-4/'59 combo in Jacksons. Im a big fan of King V's and RR5's. Great playability and great tone. The looks aren't for everyone though. Paw went with the darker toned SLS3 with no trem; I woulda went with a SL2H myself...

Stay away from the JS line (junk necks), and the Kelly line is a good compromise, but the tremolo's arent the best...

Re: Which Jackson guitar is best for metal?

You could look for a Jackson Stars, from Ikebe if you want new. I believe they are 50% off or something since the "Stars" name is being dropped now. Any early 90's Professional (especially the ones from 1990-1991) is awesome. Basically anything Jackson will be fine for metal. I like Soloists, but Kellys are cool too. Not really a fan of the rest of the shapes.
The DK2s are a lot like the old Ibanez RG-7xx series, and I like those a lot too. I don't think maple fretboards look as 'metal' as ebony, but looking metal and sounding metal are two different things, right? I had a DK2 with the bound rosewood board and blue/orange Hot Rod Flames and that was a great guitar. I'd get another if it were the right price.
