Wilkinson on a Strat...?

I have a Mexican strat that I've been upgrading piece by piece. I don't use the trem (standard, awful strat trem) and so it's blocked at the moment. However, I would love for it to have a Wilkinson on it. What is required to switch out the awful standard strat trem for a Wilkinson? Would it be a huge job?

And, if you can't answer that question, do you know where I can find a black strat bridge, minus the saddles? (I have graphite saddles and want the bridge to be all black)

Re: Wilkinson on a Strat...?

Steward MacDonald sells black Wilkinson tremelos. http://www.stewmac.com/cgi-bin/hazel...SPEC=wilkinson

I want to do the same thing on my Strat copy, but I haven't done it yet so I cannot tell you how labor intensive it would be. If you can find a Wilkinson with the same specs as your stock bridge, I would think it would be pretty easy to swap them out, but if you have to drill holes to make it fit, then that would increase the labor and required tools.

Re: Wilkinson on a Strat...?

Should be a pretty cut and dry swap. When I made my Stratobastard i used an aftermarket strat body and a Wilkinson trem, and it dropped right in.

Re: Wilkinson on a Strat...?

Nope, just something I threw together with different parts.
The neck was from a lefty Mexi strat, the body was form someplace on e bay,the bridge was a wilkinson, and if I remember right the pickups were an HS2, HS3, and YJM

I was asking about the bridge. If it was the Wilkinson VS100.

Re: Wilkinson on a Strat...?

To replace a Strat bridge with a Wilkinson, it would have to be one of the 2-point fulcrum bridges in the first place. Then the VS100 would be a straight swap. But if the bridge on the Strat was originally the vintage bridge, the VS100 Wilkinson would require some routing/filling.

But if the Strat has a 2-point fulcrum bridge, it should be a straight swap.
