Wolfgang Standard or Special
Hey guys!
Well it appears my EVH obsession is getting worse and worse everyday! I think i'm going to buy a wolfie. I just have a couple of questions:
Should i save up and get the Standard (Flame Top, Birdseye, Schallers) or just cut the corner a bit and get a special (no top, same pickups, one volume, plain maple, non schallers). The price nearly doubles from the special to a standard and was just curious to know the opinions of others.

Re: Wolfgang Standard or Special
Hmmmmmm really? You gotta understand i'm not one of those guys who really focuses on the appearance of an axe. The main things i'm worried about is A) The quality of the tuners B) The finish on the neck and C) Tone difference because of no maple top.
Do you think these things differ that much in the two? It's a drastic price difference so i really wanna do some research on this.

Re: Wolfgang Standard or Special
Get the Special. Both are excellent guitars and if you don't need the frills, save your cash.

Re: Wolfgang Standard or Special
The Special EXP is Korean, not the special. I thought the same thing until i read the info on this link.

Re: Wolfgang Standard or Special
I've owned the cheap one, then I upgraded, I own 2 flame top stop-tails now. I would go with the Standard even though you are not talking about the Korean model (cheap model). I've played them all accept a
Custom Shop
& the Standard is the way to go! Top 3 guitars I've ever played, I love them & I want more of them! Save the money, especially if you plan on keeping it for a long time.

Re: Wolfgang Standard or Special
well, the standard does have all three things you are worried about. it has superior machine heads, a maple top, and a
birdseye maple neck
. so, really, i think the standard would be the best bet. even though you don't care about image, you do have to admit that a Maple archtop is damn sexy!

Exactly! Not the best quality maple tops, but the guitars are great. The necks are so small.

Yeah they do look good, i kinda dig a flat top and one knobbed guitar though. Are the machine heads on the special horrid or are they the same as schallers just with
chrome knobs
and no logo? Also, are the finished the same on both necks even though one is birdseye and the other is plain? I don't need it to look pretty i just need it to play fast and sound good.

Re: Wolfgang Standard or Special
Why not just get the cheaper one and replace the tuners. How much are they(the tuners), like $70?

Why? Because the neck wood is not as good, the quilt top is "fake", no tone knob, flat top (unless you like it), & I think there is a difference in the quality (seemed to be).
