Yamaha RGX A2

Has anyone tried this new RGX model? I see it on some online stores already and the price is quite affordable.

Yes, My brother had one that he bought in Japan in 1989. White with one pickup, one knob and a Floyd. Very nice guitar. My friend has it now and has had it for 5 years now. Really great guitar!

Wow, the new RGX, while looking quite sharp, has nothing much in common with the old one that I've got. Different body (the old one has beveled cutaways and more of an Ibanez RG shape), different bridge, different headstock... hmmm

Yamaha has reinvented the RGX/RGZ series several times over the years. This must be the fourth or fifth incarnation. The A2 is a pretty neat-looking guitar, though. I'd love to see one (and hear one).

I am intrigued by the cylindrical tuners. I wonder how easy would be to turn them.

They're Yamaha's attempt to make something that looks like the LSR gearless tuners. Only they're just regular geared tuners with cylindrical knobs.

There is a picture of the model in this month's Guitarist issue and online shops have included it in their catalogs as "expected item". I guess it's a matter of time before reviews start appearing on magazines.

The latest Guitarist issue has a full review of the guitar this month. It is featherlight and described as fenderish in clean channel.

Yamaha use to make some real decent guitars I find that the new stuff quality wise suck hairy bean bags but they do get the job done if bedroom playing is all you need

i tried this guitar out today at Hickies in Reading. So very nice...so very...very nice. I was completely blown away by the look of this guitar, the sound, the feel! The neck for starters is BRILLIANT, fast and smooth, great rosewood fingerboard, I'd say better than my Les Paul (epiphone). Ran it through a vintage Fender Amp and both pickups sounded brilliant, though I really like the tone of both together. As for the tuning heads, they're ingenious. Very easy to tune up, and it'll stay in tune too. The bridge is really nice, you can palm mute without it stabbing you in the hand as it's smooth and in level with the strings. The LED looks very flash too, and the overall look is superb. I'd give it 5/5, hoping to get one soon

That was very interesting, how would you compare the feeling, weight, neck to an Ibanez S/SA? And how much sonic territory does it cover?

Hmmm...the weight, it's very light, around 5 and a 1/2 pounds. Very nice as it won't hurt your shoulder. As for the neck, I haven't played an Ibanez S/SA, but it's very thin and quite fast. One problem is that it's painted...slows it down a bit if you sweat a lot when playing. Other than that the guitar's an all round beauty.
