Re: Your best bargain?
In 1991 I put an RG570 (I think that's what it was) on layaway at the local music shop in January. I only put down like $40.00 and was going to come right back! That night my girlfriend and I packed up and split for a road trip that took us to Ohio for 6 months. When I got out of the holding cell that last night, (long story) we came right back with just enough cash to get to my Fathers' house. I had no money, no job, a disintegrating relationship and a crappy Chevy Scooter about to fall apart. A week later I get a call from the music store, because I had given them my Fathers' number, and they asked if I was going to pick up this guitar, which by the way I had forgotten about. If not they were going to have to put it back out for sale. I weakly asked how much I had left on it, knowing that I wouldn't be able to afford it, but was hoping to get my money back. The sales guy said "you owe $40.00"...Without hesitation I replied I'll be right there. I called up a buddy and explained what had happened borrowed the cash and got the guitar (with hard case)...Ah, the days when salesmen screwed up writing the receipt on a piece of paper!! I never had anything else like that happen again. Usually I was the guy getting screwed on deals after that! karma, she's a bitch!

I've done things like that too. It's pretty dishonest, no you didn't actively lie but you let a falsehood that you knew to be false go and did nothing. I've done it too in the past, but I know it's wrong man. You should of come clean on that one.

In the end, my 2002 American Series Fender Strat cost me $165 as part of a Craigslist package deal.

Re: Your best bargain?
Besides getting free stuff, I'd have to say picking up a used (in great condition) 7VWH w/case for $850 plus tax.

'07 mint Jem 77V for 900€ (about 1290$) not a great bargain, maybe, but I think it's a respectable price for it
P.S. I forgot: brand new takamine EG523SC for 400€ (about 570$)
P.P.S. (yeah, not a good memory) brand new RG 550 20th DY for 730€ (about 1050$)

Re: Your best bargain?
Not too gas worthy I know but I picked up a late 90's Jackson Performer super strat for approx US$50. I got it home and beneath the dush and gunk... it was brand new!! sold it again for around US$200
Just recently picked up a dusted and rockstarred 93? RG550 for US$120 all parts there and intact. Now I get the glorious job of restoring it.

Re: Your best bargain?
Gibson Les Paul Custom Zakk Wylde ... Opened for $ 3000 but I got for $ 1800. I am Chinese-Thai and I know a trick for Chinese traditional. The first day after the come back from Chinese new year holidays.(Gibson dealer in Thailand is Chinese-Thai as well) try to be the first customer in the morning. You can bargain what you want and they will sell it to you, because we believe that we must sell once start the new year and we will have a good business a whole year.
I did many years but last couple of years I moved to the south of Thailand. Now just back to Bangkok again.... Next year I will do it again .. haha

Re: Your best bargain?
can't beat any of it, all my guitars were so overpriced because most of them imported from Japan.
I can only call one japanese RG that I brought home for like USD 300, almost perfect dead mint condition + boss pedal + strap + AC adapter.
that was only one time I feel like winning something.

Re: Your best bargain?
I picked up an 89 rg 550 off of craigslist for 80 bux. It was listed as an ibanez rg. It was white and had the black pickguard. He originally wanted 150 for it. So I called and asked what condition the paint was in and his reply that it was in great shape. I get there and there dings and chips all over the place. There was one huge gouge down to the wood on the corner under the pickquard. I could of got it for 70 dollars but he didnt have change for a 20 so. Took it home, stripped the paint off, painted it road flare red, reshielded the pickup cavities and threw it all back together. Still have it to this day and its the best sounding and playable guitar I own. I would never sell it for anything.
