1997 7 string RG---RG7520??

I have a 1997 7 string RG in royal blue and I decided to pull the neck when I was cleaning/setting it up one day and the neck and neck pocket are stamped with USRG7520. Anyone seen this before or have a clue about it? I have had my share of 7's and this is a RG7620 for sure. Were the early 7620's going to be called 7520's? I know that the RG7620s came out in 1998 as well

The serial number is F97 26XXX

Anyone have any ideas out there??

It probably just looks like a '5', but is in fact a '6'.

The 5 is very clear and not smugded at all. I thought the same thing when I saw it. I should have taken a pic, but didn't think of it until I was lookin at 97 catalogs and there wasn't any RG 7s in it. I tried to snap a pic of the serial number but my camera is a POS and cant get that detailed
Here is the body color

Early RG7620 in Royal Blue with a 97 SN#. My 98 had 7520 stamped in the heel as well. (MIJ RG470 necks have RG550-II or something on them, the stamps aren't an absolute.)

Sevenstringer: 4 screws... take the neck off! The model number should be there.
It looks like a 7620 to me.

By the power vested in me... I now pronounce this thread alive!

I think this topic was successfully covered few years ago in other thread or forum - it's exactly the same thing. I don't remember the full story but sorry bro - it's not a rare or special model.

I don't care if it's rare or not. My guitar's had so many mods that it ain't got any resale value whatsoever =) But I'd like to know the story about the number. Anyone?

Re: 1997 7 string RG---RG7520??

The 7520's are early 7620's. I think it took Ibanez a few weeks of manufacture to realize folks would assume a guitar named "RG7-520" would actually be a 7 string version of the RG-520, which is a mahogany bodied guitar. So, change that 5 to 6! Other than the stamp, there is no difference at all between these and the rest of the 7620's.

So, it's an oddity certainly, and absolutely one of the earliest of the 7620 run but I would not think it would be worth any more money than any other 7620 because of the numbering.

I also had an early 97 7620 in Royal blue a couple of years back that had the same stamp in the neck pocket.
No biggie , just kind of cool I guess.
