7 string owners, how do you feel on a 6 string?
I've got my RG1077XL and my RG3120 feels AWKWARD after just 3 hours of playing on RG1077XL. The neck seems way too narrow. What the heck? I guess there are guys who have both 6 and 7 strings. How do you guys maintain your chops on both? Is it something I'll get used to?

i wouldn't worry too much...
i spend most of my time on a 7620 now...and it is really cool and comfortable, however i always welcome the change of going back to the 7vwh.
I think that if you have good technique then it translates to either neck fine. It should only take a few minutes at the most to adjust - physically that is...if its psychological then sorry cant help you.
Try re-evaluating your hand positions posture etc it may help.
Hopefully you'll find the switch less a problem after a bit more experience with the 7. Everyone has a preference, but it shouldnt be uncomfortable
Hope this helps.

I feel a lil lost on a 6 string now too, unless its an acoustic. It feels a little weird going back to a 6-string nec for me too, but i wouildnt say that it is uncomfortable. It takes me about 5 minutes to adjust to not having the same girthy neck in my hands buit it isnt hard to do. BUt i find myself reaching for that low b sometmes when i get into it, so i just play my Universe all of the time now.

Hi! Hmmm. Tape your thumb to your hand- hand feel almost useless now? Can still use it as a club. Backscratcher. Chase small children and make monster noises while waving hand in air. Hmm. Like losing a finger to me. Scales end early. Like driving down a well known road, only to fall off a cliff a mile before you thought the road ended. Lastly, makes me angry. My 7 strings will laugh when i pick up a 6 string. Maniacal laughing. So evil. Really ticks me off. But the 7 strings know I will be back- all too soon...smug, steel stringed bastards...

I still play both my 6 & 7 string back and forth. They both feel fine, now. I prefer the 7 string though. I like the options I have a little better.

Not too good. I get lost on the neck and the feel is weird. I'd rather stick to the 7.

but... the 7 string neck feels gooooooood, and my six string feels different, but still fine.
I've got a UV and a
mesa boogie
- great stuff - but now I want a marshall (800 prolly) and a
fender strat
or jazzmaster! (Never thought I'd want another 6 string, but I just sort of changed direction overnight - I really annoy myself sometimes).

Man, had I known what I was buying into I'd be afraid of buying a 7 string...

Hmm... well microdmitry, it all is a matter of perspective I suppose. I don't even own a 6 string, except for my classical, and the neck on that is wider than my electric 7's. I can still play a six string fine, but it takes a few minutes to adjust, mainly because of the NARROW feeling neck. On my classical, or on a 6-
string bass
(I love 6-string bass necks. WIDE!) I have no problems. But it does take a small period of adjustment to play a 6. However, I wouldn't worry, because I rarely play 6, and yet, when I do, it only takes a few finutes as I said. I think it's more kinetic memory than an intellectual problem. You hands just have to remember what to do on that small-feeling neck.

I picked up my friend's Yamaha the other day, and that thing had the thinnest neck I've ever played, the thing felt tiny.

I'm hopelessly lost on a 6 string. It's as though I simply don't know how to play anymore. I suppose I could adapt back if I had to, but it would take a serious effort.

The more you switch back and forth the more comfortable you will be going back to six strings. It gets easier the more you play around with both guitars.

Funny thing, my playing on my yamaha flamenco is pretty good since playing sevens exclusively these past 6 months. 6 string electric feels like I'm playing a toothpick with something missing.
Although I am gasing for a LP.
