7-String project question..

that hopefully can get answered ASAP, like hopefully soon after i post this.... im working on a project, the body was an old 7420, i filled in the neck pup cavity, and also turned it from a trem-routed guitar to a fixed bridge.. but i got a nice deal on a '07 1527 neck with a locking nut.. now you can see where im going.. so my question finally is, does a neck work on a guitar that will have just a fixed bridge? (sorry if its a dumb question, but im not sure so I might as well ask)

Thanks!

Re: 7-String project question..

I believe the 1527 neck is a tad bit wider than the 74/7620 necks as well. Not sure about the nut. I'm sure it wouldn't hurt it but I think you'll have to shave a bit of the neck pocket to get that 1527 neck in there. I think someone posted about it a ways back. They ended up ruining the body because they messed up the pocket trying to get the neck to fit...

Re: 7-String project question..

why not, paul gilbert did? he just left the lock down pads off of the nut. as far as mating the 2 parts together, that i am unsure of.

yea i noticed that too... i did route a little off from the neck pocket to fit the 1527 neck in there, so it fits nicely now... so final answer, the neck with the locking nut should work with a fixed bridge?

Thanks for the replies guys!

Re: 7-String project question..

itll work fine, in fact those locking nuts not locked are less restrictive than a tight fitting corian nut

i heard somewhere u can get a compensating nut that bolts right up to a floyd nut route

also u can actually use a really sharp chissel and just take out the routed section from the end of the locking nut section out to the neck, and glue in a tall corian nutt and cut and shape it down....maybe..?

Re: 7-String project question..

As said, it will work fine, BUT, you will not be able to lock it, as otherwise you won't be able to get in tune without lots of swearing (like the early floyd rose systems....)
