7 string single coil pickups

Can anyone hip me to good HOT replacement pickups for the neck position of my 540s7. Only thing I've seen that looks cool is rio grande. I've looked everywhere. Anyone?
Thanks

i own 4 of the Rio Grande Muy Grande 7 string single coils, in two H/S/S 7 string strats. they are hot, compared to single coil pickups at least. they do the "pushed" Texas blues tone well, and they hold their own with the Tone Zone 7s i also have in those guitars, in full humbucking mode and when i coil split the TZ. they sound great for clean tones, much better than the Blaze II single coils that are stock on the 540S7.

Rio Grande will wind the middle position RWRP if you request it so you can get hum canceling combinations in the middle switch positions. even though they are a little bit expensive, i think the Muy Grandes are the best production 7 string single coil out there, but that's also partly because there are only a couple production single coil 7s.

the problem with putting them in a 540S7, which i'd love to do too since i own two of those guitars, is that the single coil pickup cavities in the 540S7 are slender and narrow with parallel front and back "walls" to fit the Blaze II single coil. the Rio Grandes have that angled baseplate that sticks out behind the pickup, like classic Strat single coils. you would have to rout the 540S7 body, or get Rio Grande to custom build you a pickup without that baseplate protrusion. if you are going to custom build, then you might as well look at Duncan Custom Shop too.

Why not just go with the Rio Grandes? I don't know about their single coils, but I'm using Muy Grande humbucker in both my primary guitar and a guitar I'm currently having built. The Muy humbuckers are outstanding and I would guess that their single coils are as well.

Thanks for the info guys. See I was gonna get the muy grande but I do not want to modify the 540s7. You definately saved me some serious frustration Scott. Thanks. Do you guys think I would have the same problem with the Tom Anderson pickup?

WHy not a fastrack or hotrails 7 model. Those would sell in my opinion. Ive actually always wanted an all single coil seven string for awhile now. Maybe Ill pick up an 7620 and have jeanie make me a strat style pickguard for it

To answer my own question, I doubt the anderson pickup would fit. I will probably go duncan custom hot rails 7. We should bombard them with orders and get them to make it a stock item. Yeah right.
Thanks all. Will update when completed.

Don't worry about it. It looks from the picture on the warmoth site that the anderson p-up had that angled baseplate that the rio grande has as well. If you remember otherwise let me know.

I do recall it having that...whereas the blaze single i pulled out of the middle was that same size & shape of the hole.

sorry to have crimped your plan to put the Rio Grandes in your 540S7, but glad to have saved you the trouble of routing or being stuck with the pickups. i would have done that to my 540S7's if i could have.

yes, but as of a couple years ago, this did _not_ include the rail single coil pickups like the Hot Rails -- the Custom Shop told me they didn't have the rail parts in a 7 string size. they can build all their regular pole piece single coils and stacked single coils in a 7 string size.

if they have changed this in the last couple years, please correct me. to fit in a 540S7, the Duncans would also have not not have the angled base plate sticking out behind the pickup that the Rio Grandes and Andersons do. but if it's a custom order, maybe they could build it to fit.
