I purchased a Schecter USA Alex Gregory model a few months back on ebay. Not crazy about Alex Gregory but absolutely love Schecter USA guitars. The guitar is awesome –
maple neck, pao ferror fingerboard,
alder body. Loved everything about the guitar except the pups – Duncan custom stacked humbuckers – totally lifeless without any of that classic single-coil spank or shimmer.
So, a friend of mine, who happens to worship G&L guitars who also happens to be a wannabe guitar luthier / tech, is building some real 7-string single coils based on the G&L small MFD design. As you can see from the pics, the pole pieces are actual G&L pole pieces which he had gold-plated to match the hardware on the guitar. Next step is winding which we’ll likely have Jason Lollar do.
