Re: 7-string: trem or non trem

I have RG 1077 XL with a Lo Pro Edge 7 in it and I think it is great. In the end it all depends on if you are trem user (heavy or little) or not. Depending on that answer you should the 7 string based on that.

Regards

André

Re: 7-string: trem or non trem

I try to look at guitars as tools. If you can, you should have one each trem and non-trem. If you know what you want to play on it, then you've pretty much narrowed it down. If you don't, I'd get a trem and maybe a tremel-no and block it when you didn't need it. My main 7 has a trem, as all of my non-hollow body main rock guitars do. I don't go nuts on the trem with divebombs though, as they don't really fit what I play too often. So, I guess if you can only have one I'd say get a good trem and something to block it when you don't need it.

As far as i can see the Petrucci isn't really a normal trem. I think it's recessed and you could basically use it as a Floyd trem (though probably not as effective mabye because of the tunning).

I'd go with the Petrucci and put a piezo in

Yeah, the Petrucci trem is fully floating with a recessed cavity, but there's nowhere near as much pull-up range as a fully recessed Floyd. It has locking tuners so, with a proper setup, it should stay in tune reasonably well under light to moderate trem use.

Why don't you see a point of having a trem on a seven string? It serves exactly the same purpose it does on a 6.

Re: 7-string: trem or non trem

this question is still bugging me, i hate the hassles of floyds, but i love the result, but the simplicity of a regular bridge is beautiful but the floyd looks cool as hell, dammit
