I don't think that either pickup would be better than the other, they are just different. But personally, I think the best passive
bridge pickup
around is the Blaze Custom. I loved it because it had great articulation like an EMG but it was still very alive-sounding.

Well... If you are going to put the TZ7 in a mahogony guitar, then don't, plain and simple. I hated the sound. Blaze Custom will do you much better.
All depends on what guitar you'll putting the pickup in, as wood makes a huge difference

I have both in a couple of my guitars. I prefer blaze custom. Awesome pickup.

Go for the Blaze Custom. I've never used a
Tone Zone
7 but from my experience with the original Blaze II I can say that it would probably be your best bet considering the artists you stated above.
What's great about the Blaze Custom is that it has some midrange injected in it. That's the only thing I hated about the Blaze II - no "guts".

This can't be overlooked or overstated. To get a decent recommendation you need to state what you're looking to upgrade.

That all depends on your amp, which frankly I find surprising because you're a Nomad player, too. Frankly, I find the Blaze quite balanced sounding, and the only thing I'd like different is a bit of extra cut to the treble/upper mids. Eh, to each their own.
+1 on wood choice. I've played a Tone Zone 7 in basswood, and it was nice - very warm and organic. In mahogany, it was almost painful, all lower mids, little true bass or treble, yet this annoying high end sizzly presence. Great for cleans, but that was about it.

Re: (7 string)Dimarzio Tone Zone vs. Blaze Bridge?
I've got a guitar equipped with a pair of EMG 81's. I love the sound that I get from them with the exception of the sterility.
While I do find the original Blaze PU's to be quite nice sounding they lack the extra "umph" that I get from the EMG's. This may be the lack of midrange or just the fact that Blaze II's aren't as powerful as EMG's.

Re: (7 string)Dimarzio Tone Zone vs. Blaze Bridge?
wood and pickups make the combo.
i use the tone zone 7 in mahogany with an
air norton
7 and the blaze custom with an air norton in basswood.
the blaze custom makes up for basswoods tonal shortcomings. whereas the tone zone accentuates the tonal properties of mahogany.

Re: (7 string)Dimarzio Tone Zone vs. Blaze Bridge?
i hate the
blaze bridge
in my UV777BK, but a blaze custom would be much more well rounded imo, at least judging by its EQ curve since i've not actually tried one... the blaze bridge is just too scooped for me, i prefer to scoop at my amp or preamp, not at my pickup.
