7-Strings that are comparable to the Universe

What other 7 string guitars exsist that are in competition with the Universe. I'm looking to buy one sometime this summer and I wanted to explore options. Thanks

RG-1077XL (discontinued), RG2027 (discontinued), RG2127 (discontinued), RG8527 (Japan only, not sure if it's still available), and other Prestige types that are now discontinued.

dude, you forgot the 1527.

Depends what you mean by "comparable." The only 7 i can think of with the same H-S-H pickup layout from Ibanez is the 1077x, and that's got an extended scale length, which may or may not be something you want.

A good 7620 with a good setup is probably the cheapest route to very similar tone and playability, although you won't have a middle single coil- personally, i'd rather just have the two humbuckers anyway, though.

For non-Ibanez designs, I'm not sure... the biggest price you'll pay is the trem, the Edge designs kick the crap out of everything else i've tried. However, Carvins are supposed to be pretty solid, for the price...

Also, there's always the custom option- my next 7 will either be the new 1527 or will come from the EKG banner at the top of this page.

Yeah I kind of meant non-Ibanez guitars as well.

If you can get an Ibanez bridge on it, sure. But nothing beats the Edge/Lo-Pro, especially for 7-strings.

The only thing to really set the new UV's aside from anything else is pickups. The RG7620 is comparable as a bare bones guitar, same trem, same neck (as on 2000 and newer UV's) same body shape, only rear routed, and HH pickup config, doesn't look as pretty.

Through a few blazes in there, you have a stripped UV almost.

Compare-able to the old UV, well, the 2027 I believe shares the same profile which is thinner than the new ones.

Basically, all Edge or Lo Pro edge equipped Ibanez 7's would be comparable, some people like certain ones even more.

I don't know how well the trems handle (anyone with experience?)... but the Carvin DC727 and 747 look pretty nice.

Yeah, carvin doesn't put locking nuts on their floyd guitars, don't know why. The fixed bridges make a lot more sense.

Carvin does not advertise locking nuts as options, but they will install them if you ask. I've seen a number of locking nut equipped guitars in Carvin's "in stock" section.

Aperently, the carvin 7s smoke the construction of the UV and any other 7 string. But they have 2 MAJOR flaws pickups and floyds aperently these completley suck.
