7421/7621 bridges...

Guys, I understand there are some differences between the RG7421 and 7621 bridges, and I assume the 7621 has the better one (duh!). I'd like to know:

* Are they Gotoh bridges and can they be bought separately?
* And are they directly interchangeable?
* Is it even worth fitting a better bridge to the 7421 or does the existing one do a good enough job?

Reason I ask is because I just bought a 7421 (for only £170) and I'm planning on gradually upgrading the pickups, bridge (if necessary), fitting a pickguard, and having it repainted. My first 7-string! YAY! I only waited 17 years.

Cheers for any info.

Re: 7421/7621 bridges...

ive had a 7421 and 7621 and theres not a huge difference between them that I could notice. Its probably not worth it unless you plan on fitting like a TOM or Flody type, or anything other than that kind of hardtail.

Im sure I saw them being sold seperately, altho maybe not gotoh (and maybe not the EXACT same ones on the RGs, just similar in look/what it is)

No idea if they are interchangable tho

I haven't forgotten, Andy, I didn't get it yet! It's all paid for, now I gotta wait a couple of days until it arrives. Thanks for the congrats! I'm really excited man, I have wanted a 7 for too long.

Re: 7421/7621 bridges...

congrats Dee! but for some reasons i thought you hated 7-strings... anyway, i suggest you to not replace the bridge, the 7421's is great and does its job perfectly. hey, any idea about the colors? something yellow or RFR?

Re: 7421/7621 bridges...

Thanks all!

Nuno -- I love 7's. I'm not sure why you thought I didn't like them. They are great.

I have one small question (which I asked Nick via PM): Does the 7421 have split shaft pots of solids? Mine needs new knobs and I was thinking of grabbing some from Allparts but I didn't want to buy the wrong ones. Nick thinks all MIJ RG's have split shaft, and he's probably correct. I just wanted to be sure.

I haven't decided on a paint scheme yet. If the original paint is in acceptable condition maybe I will leave it alone and go for white pickups. I'm interested in the Dimarzio D Activators.

well, don't know, i always see you so much into the '80s and the "simplicity" of that era, don't know really, but then here we go with a 7! btw, i'm having a local painter repainting my RG7 in a color that you won't like much... but trust me, she will have character! i'll post pics when it's done.

ps: what you mean "split" shaft pots? push/pull and stuff like that?

Hey Nuno, I have to leave the house in a second, I'm in a rush. I will continue later!

Re: 7421/7621 bridges...

oh yeah i got it, sorry. yep, i think ALL Ibanez guitars have split shaft except those with "Ibanez" stamp on the back, and even some top series bass models (J-Customs, pre-Prestige ect) have solid shaft pots.

*be careful*

if you're going to buy some good pots (DiMarzio, CTS etc) be aware they have a larger shaft than the original Ibanez's. you'd need to enlarge the pots holes to have them fitting in. nothing that a Dremel or a reamer can't do.

Re: 7421/7621 bridges...

I only need knobs, Nuno, not the actual pots. I also know that the Dimarzio pots are larger, I fitted one to my RG 20th when the original volume pot broke. Not sure if you remember me posting about it here a few months ago? I had to enlarge the hole in the pickguard so it would fit. In hindsight, I should have bought a CTS pot, but the Dimarzio is very nice and smooth.

Re: 7421/7621 bridges...

I'm going with white blazes on my newly acquired Korean 7321. I'm going to put white binding too. I was going to mod it like my arctic white 7620 with white blazes but I like the black/white look. I also thought about modding it like my UV7BK with the black and green but I think it would look better white and black.
