7421XL Revisited

New one just showed up (again), and guess what? There's a finish flaw in EXACTLY the same place in the neck joint!! Almost identical to the last one, a bit smaller. I've already yanked the neck on this one, however, and confirmed that it is just a finish crack and not a crack in the pocket. And again, we're talking minute here. Most people would never notice. It makes me wonder if there's some piece of equipment used on these that could cause a scratch in precisely the same place. I just about crapped when I eyeballed the pocket and saw it.... talk about deja vu :P

Anyway... other than one other very miniscule finish blem in an unnoticable location, she's perfect. I'm blown away already by what little playing i've done on it. I'm sure i'll have more to say on that later...

But now a question... isn't the 7421XL supposed to have V7/V8? If these are a V7/8 they are a) totally unmarked and b) seem to be much hotter. I've made no adjustments on 'em yet and they are screamin'. Anyone else notice this on there's?

Now for a real set of strings....

I don't think the RG7's come with v7/v8's. Something like a v77?

But it's good to hear that you like it....CONGRATS!

Holy cow, yeah... I'm really diggin' the long scale. There is definitely a noticable increase in string definition and clarity. Even simple power chords have a tight, crisp edge I haven't heard b4. Clean chords are gorgeoius. You really notice the extra space playing up above the 12th. Much easier to get around up there.

Like i said, the pups rock, man. Maybe they wound the V77/88s a little hotter, dunno. Don't think i'll be changing them out any time soon. All in all, i'm a dang happy camper and proud to be an official member of the 7 Club!
