7621/7421 hybrids
Has this happened to anyone else? I have two guitars that have necks stamped 7621 and bodies stamped 7421. I bought them about 2 years apart of each other.
The more recent one I bought at a pawn shop in Dallas for $150! Sometimes life is good.

I'm not sure about why this happens, but I've heard of it before, here's my theory (if someone knows for sure, let me know how far I'm off
):
Since both guitars are identical except for:
-finish colours
-neck (3-piece maple versus 1-piece maple, maybe profile difference??)
-pickups
-bridge
They probably only made one kind of body, and then the type finish, pickups, bridge, and neck determined which guitar it was?
So then, maybe some got stamped as one guitar, but they had extras so used them for the other guitar?

My theory was that, since the 7621's were made in Japan, and the 7421's were made in Korea, that these guitars got caught in the transfer. They probably had lots of 7621 necks made in Japan that were shipped to Korea to be put on 7421 bodies.
Given the differences in quality between Korea and Japan, I guess it's a good deal that the necks were Japanese. I would guess that necks are harder to make than bodies.

Actually, the 7421 was made in japan:

Can anyone confirm whether or not the 7421 neck was spec'd as a three-peice maple or one-peice maple? I've never played one myself, but I'm wondering if maybe the necks were the same, and that this was the case for all 7421's.
Either way, as a japanese-made seven string and without the stigma/performance issues of a lo-trs floating trem, the 7421 is a hell of a deal for the money, especially as most people end up swapping the stock Dimarzio New 7's out of the 7621's anyway.

Edit- so yeah, twohands, i think you're right, although with the possible twist that it was the same body AND neck.
plant- could you maybe provide the first three characters from your serial numbers? it ought to be like F98 or F00 or something.

There's an idea, with the necks being the same. I dunno, I've played a 7620, and a 7621, but I've never even seen a 7420/7421 in person so I'm no help on that one.

I'm guessing the necks are the same. The bodies are slightly different, as the 742x bodies have rounded spaces for the pickup mounting ears and the 762x have triangular-ish ones for the DiMarzios.
Similarly, I have a JS1000 with a neck stamped JS2000.
