8- & 9-string axes - anyone have one?

I've been pondering the idea of having a custom 8- or 9-string made. *I know someone around here has one or both. *Can you please hook a bro up with some pictures, specs, and any other info possible?

Right now, I'm thinking of 9-strings (F# B E A D G B E A), 27" neck scale, 36-frets. *Insane I know, but imagine the possibilities!

Actually, I played one of their Groove Tools 7 strings. I know they're an import, but they should find a better company to make their imports, because it really sucked, IMHO. The build quality just wasn't there.

Well, I'll talk to my guitar tech this weekend and see if he'll be interested in making one. *For all the business I've thrown him, he barely charges me anything. *And that's only because I told him he was getting some money from me wether he liked it or not! :thumbsup: *He just enjoys building & repair guitars. *It's not about cash for him.

Anyhow, if he takes my challenge, I might get a completely INSANE guitar for next to nothing! (CROSSING FINGERS!) *I need to figure out where to get pickups, hardware, and stuff like that. *

Hardware and pickups is where your cash is going to go...one off custom work is insanely expensive unless you have major connections...which you may have. *Pickups can be custom wound for you without too much problem I would think. *But the bridge is where you may run into trouble. *I guess theoretically you could take two 6 string hardtail bridges, split one down the middle and machine it a little to dress it up a little, maybe replate it to avoid rusting and the like. *That may work. *You will might have to bore out the hole on the tuning peg on the lowest string depending on what gauges you use.

You could buy a set of saddles, and build the base for them yourself too, if you can't find a bridge.

i found one guy on the internet that had a shop make him a friggin eleven... yep eleven string baritone guitar................CRAZY!!! goes to show anythings possible

Yep, seen that one. 5-string bass with 6-string guitar on one neck. Has piezo pickups for both as well as mags, and space to put a midi pickup if he wants later.
