I reckon you could interrogate people with that one.

Re: 8-string RG proto (old??)
Glad this wasn't too old. And yes, the neck looks like you need fingers from hell to play that beauty

Re: 8-string RG proto (old??)
here's the crap ass translation i got off a free site:
"exhibited and photographed to the Disma 2006 of Rimini, this sole prototype to the world was created from the
ibanez Custom Shop
of Los Angeles for Steve Vai to be able to give it ok to the handle, to the spaziatura of the strings, varied thicknesses, I weigh, bilanciamento ecc. here perhaps the reason of two EMG and of the bridge TRS. now in fact the Ibanez is preparing an I model 8-
string Pickups
DiMarzio and likely in white color. meanwhile godiamoci this..
I thank infinitely Stefano "Sebo" Xotta and Mogar Music to have made available this example for the pages of ibanez87.it."
So apparently steve vai had something to do with this? I guess it needs to be updated now that it's not the only one, unless somehow it got repainted black and sent to rusty? I dunno
It looks like it's setup for G-E. I'd much rather do B-A personally

Re: 8-string RG proto (old??)
That 'marbly red' one is the same (apart from the colour of course!) as the 'marbly blue' one they had at NAMM this year.
Lovely looking instrument but i really don't think there's many people around who could get the best out of an instrument like that.
I wouldn't look at anything wider than a 7-string neck.

Re: 8-string RG proto (old??)
Why on earth would Steve ever care about a 8 string? He barely uses his 7 string baritone DNA...
Is it me or does the finnish look an aweful lot like the RDNZL jem?
and a TRS? WTF?

Re: 8-string RG proto (old??)
like JTM45 said i doubt seriously there are enough people out there that could effectivly use an 8 string to it's full potiental . That neck is huge , i have a 7 string schecter and can get around on it ok but i still can't do a lot of the stuff that i would on a 6 string . I have rather large hands too and i still dont think i'd be able to get around on an 8 string well enough to justify having one .
