A 7th string takes...

Bit of fun here i guess while re-stringing my 7-string.

While stringing my 7-string, i've noticed that a 7th string takes this amount of time to stretch

Either:
* 1 Malmtseen album
* 1 Dream Theater album
* 1 and 1/2 Vai album
* 1 and 1/2 Satriani album

These are the options i've come across. Any ideas how long your 7th string takes to stretch guys?

Do you mean stretching by playing? Mine only takes a few minutes because I stretch it by hand.

i have a little trick, i restring before i go to bed if im gonna do it, and stretch them all by hand beforehand so when u get up the next day theyve done that last little bit you can never do by hand without any effort from you

Two beers? If your wife is waiting for you to mow the yard when you're finished restringing, it could take all afternoon!

That works on a floyd, but the high e is sharp enough to............well lets just say ive got scars and leave it at that, if you do that with a standard bridge the strings will most likely give loose at the ball end

Yeah, my high e has snapped twice stretching it. For some reason my 7th string just never stretches out...

Re: A 7th string takes...

I use a floyd rose, so when I pull off a string to replace it it raises the other string's pitches. I find that that stretches out the majority of my strings pretty well

Re: A 7th string takes...

Stretch it by hand, but then again it's a pretty hefty string at .70 (for some reason am having to buy bass guitar strings :s) Doesn't take too long as long as it's stretched in properly, but normally I do leave them overnight after stretching all the strings

Re: A 7th string takes...

S.I.T make a .70 guitar string, as opposed to slapping on a bass string.

Cool, although they may be hard to find in the UK, bass strings are quite easy, but expensive

Re: A 7th string takes...

I let it streach overnight after putting on a new set and tuning up.
