AARRRRGGGG!!!!
The powdered finish on my BSB bridge has faded as well, but hey, don't really mind too much, at least it isn't bubbling...
So yeah, it happens. DO you find that what's left looks slightly plasticky?

* yeah, it does looks slightly plasticky, but i just got it 2 weeks ago, i must say i love ibanez cause they feel great but no durability to it( don't flame me for it) i just have found
ibanez guitars
to be a bit flaky when it comes to durability, the finishes are not the best, i got a 89 carvin that has been through hell and back, and it *still looks and plays better than any ibanez i've had. now i haven't had a jem or a prestige but i thought the 7620 was supposed to be one of the mid range quality ibanez and so far im disappointed, my next purchase is a carvin. ohh yeah, just to add a bit more flame to the fire, i didn't like the 2027

Yep, I find there isn't that much durability on the bridge finish, maybe it's the way I play?
I never liked the 2027 untill I saw it up close, and the once I saw a chipped one I was smitten (it was the chip that did it, took itr from a guitar that was a bit too polished to something that was just cool...). That guitar definetly looks better beaten up a bit.
It is a shame about the finish though, I mean, there aren't that many types of guitars that age well and actually don't start to look really bad when they get beat up. But maybe that's just me...
And don't worry about not liking the 2027, if everyone had liked it, it would have actually sold more! Personally I really don't like the 7vwh, and detest gold hardware, but that's just me...

* I don't know what it is, but i sure as hell ain't buying another ibanez, unless i see it has a better bridge finish, or the paint holds up better.

AARRRRGGGG!!!!
Having said that, the old cosmo chrome and plain black finish on the bridges seems to hold up a lot better, granted, my s series bridge is quite worn after years of heavy playing, but it didn't wear much untill some jerk i trusted kept it in a damp studio (which didn't do it any good).
So I think it's probably just the powdered xxxx finishes that have this problem. The other ones just seem to suffer from the normal floyd wear and tear...

*yeah, i guess so, cause i had a real crappy rg220 and the hardware on that one is still looking good, the guy i sold it to also uses it alot and it has a black crome finish. hell im just glad i didn't pay full price on it or i would be really pissed.

yep, ibanez finishes on body and hardware do not resist much things...
for example, a friend removed the back plate of his rg550, and the whole contour of the routed part lost its finish...

I have a Japanese 93 RG470 and the body and neck are in perfect condition despite that guitar being put through raging hell. But the chrome Edge is badly corroded. It doesn't seem to affect the playability so i don't plan to change it until it does. But it sucks to spend a fortune on a guitar only to have it deteriorate within weeks.

Vendetta,
You do have to keep in mind that you're completely slagging off agaisnt a company solely because of cosmetic issues. I mean, it's not like the bridge is broken, it's just that the finish wears quickly. Granted, I agree that it sucks to have a brand-new, two week old guitar begin to discolor on you, but in the big picture it's a pretty minor issue.
I also own a RG-7620, Vampire kiss with black hardware, and while the hardware has held up perfectly, the body paint is definately susceptable to chipping. But you know what? It's a guitar, I bought it to play, not to look at. The neck's amazing, the tone (after the mandatory set of Dimarzio's) is equally so (The
Tone Zone bridge
pickup has this amazing wah-like overtone to it through my TSL that I've really been digging of late), and am I willing to accept a slightly battle-scarred vibe in return? Sure I am.

Within a couple of years, the Powder Cosmo finish on my RG7-620 Grey Nickel's bridge was showing wear.
Now I have a handrest over it, so /that/ takes the brunt of the wear - I eventually wore a little spot through on the finish of the handrest on the top corner, so I just stripped/re-finished it and put it back on. =]
My Jem77FP looks a whole lot better now, too; bought used, someone else's skin chemistry made a pimple-farm of the bass-side of the base-plate and saddles - I put one of my handrests over that, and voila.
It is a shame that their metal finishes do wear through like that, but it's a heavy-traffic area... perhaps they should look into their 'recipies' a little more, and take a cue from the black; I rarely see ANY wear on those, even ones that are around 15 years old...
