Adding a trem...

What are the odds that a competent luthier could add a trem to a new guitar that's not routed for one without destroying the finish?

It can be done.. but it'll require A LOT OF safety precautions(namely scoring the wood and finish to keep it from chipping).

But figure it this way.. Do you have the trem already?? If not, the costs of a trem and the labour costs for routing may end up almost as much as buying a used guitar with a trem.

Yeah but finding a good used lefty 7-string with a trem is almost as easy as finding a 100 carat diamond in a bag of charcoal.

Yay! Love that comparison... whats the guitar? Am about to begin building a lefty body for a right handed 7 string neck, think I'll stick to fixed bridge at the moment.

Good reason and it probably makes it worth spending the money to get a trem installed. Do post pics of it after you get it done.
