Another pickup issue!

What to do if the screw posts on the replacement are wider than the original? do you have to drill out an extra hole or what? It seems to manage to fit in on one screw post and it's aligned with the pickup, and due to lack of space it's quite secure...did anyone else encounter this?

Re: Another pickup issue!

Are you referring to the screw hole spacing or the screw radius?

Screw hole spacing i.e. distance between the two holes where the mounting screws go in. It's wider on this Evo 7 than on the original pickup.

Re: Another pickup issue!

I recently bought two DiMarzio pickups to swap in for the V7/V8 combo in my RGA, and the new neck pickup had a slightly wider plate than the original neck pickup (I compared it to my new bridge pickup, too, with the same result). I know of someone else with the same guitar who has had the same issue with DiMarzios.

I solved it by bending the pickup's plate slightly, comparing it to the pickup being replaced, and repeating it until the holes were at the exact same position. I then mounted it and everything went fine.

It should work for you too.

Thanks for the advice, though I'm a little concerned this might affect the pickup's coil or risk snapping the plate...I'm worried that I'm knackering it enough at the moment...

I read somewhere else that the thing to do was to make appropriate hole(s) in the body...

Re: Another pickup issue!

I've successfully managed to get it installed! For reference for others in the future, what you have to do is ream out the mounting screw holes into an oblong hole so that the screw drops through it and can align with the hole in the body. And have a plastic washer in between the screw head and the pickup plate.

Wiring was as easy as ever though my old man gave me a hand all the way through.

Sounds pretty gnarly. And you can tell it's a good pickup because the neck pickup (still the original AH-7 neck) sounds really **** in comparison.

Photos to come soon....

I'll try doing that next time I'm installing pickups. Thanks for the tip, and glad you got it sorted out.

Yeah, I'm pretty pleased. Though unfortunately there wasn't enough space in the car to take it up to uni with me Luckily the only real importance is that it's ready for my band's next gig.

Here's some shots. Unfortunately with my camera you can't have the flash turned off without some degree of blur unless you hold it perfectly still or have a tripod of some sort...

As you can see in this one, the polepieces align nicely, and the washers where the mounting screws are.

I'm craving pickups for my other Ibanez, though I'll probably never be bothered to change the neck pickup on that 7321
