Baritone Question

Hi everybody. I just saw a great picture of the upcomming RG1077XLRB at http://www.ibanezrules.com/images/ne...01_rg7_rgp.jpg (great website).

My question is, how does a baritone differ from a standard guitar. Is the tunning the same? How does it work...

These new RG's are for people who are looking for a greater low end and use alternate tunings. Ibanez are producing 6 String guitars and String guitars with stock D-Tuners and 27" scale necks (standard RG has a 25.5" scale).

These guitars are meant to allow lower tunings on a standard 6 String guitar without the loss of articulation and 'floppy strings', the 27" inch scale provides higher string tension even in very low tunings so the strings stays tight and clear.

Ok, so then can one still tune to A440 on the barritone or is it's only purpose to serve players who want to tune down *either a 1/2 or full step?

Personnally I think the RG1077 XLRB looks awesome and would seriously consider purchasing it (provided it played a well as it looks

. However I really want to remain in standard A440 with the 7th as my low B. If that can't be done, I will have to reconsider my options!!

Yes I read your post. Although very interesting, it still doesn't answer my question.

What I really want to know is on a Baritone guitar (be it *a 7 or 6 strings), do you tune to standard A440, or is it intended for people whose only intention is to downtune?

I still want to be able to Jam with my buddies who tune in A440 and we all be happy

You can tune to A440 just fine, but from what i understand the string tension will just be higher. For that reason if you *mostly* standard tune the long scale 7s are not the best choice... glen

I think the extra-long scale length will be fine for tuning to A440.

Scale length, string gauge and tuning are all highly inter-dependent elements that affect string tension. Increase scale length only and you increase string tension when tuned to A440. Increase string gauge only and you increase string tension at standard tuning. Drop your tuning down and you decrease string tension. So you can play these variables off one another to get the feel and sound you like.

Bass players have been using extended-scale basses for years. Some electric basses are 35" or 36" scale, and they have a great effect on feel and tone.

It's the same reason why an 8-foot grand piano sounds better than a little upright... the harmonics and overtones seem to ring more true on longer strings.

The longer scale length on the XL guitars allows you to either drop your tuning without things getting all sloppy in the lower register, or use lighter strings and still have good string tension and tight tone at standard tuning.

You're probably the best judge of whether the 27" scale is something that's right for you.

A440 is the reference pitch for standard concert tuning.
440 is the frequency i believe, arabic music uses other reference pitches like 336 and others.

Is it just me or is there a binding along the neck of the RG 1077 XLRB?

Anybody know the price?
