Body size: 6 vs 7
hello ppl. I'm just curious.
Is the size of a typical 6-string RG the same as a 7-string RG?

I always thought so. The routings are different. I know that.

if i do some routings on the neck pocket, to fit a 7-string neck, and also routings for the 7-string floyd-rose bridge, plus a new pickguard that fits 7-string humbuckers and singlecoil, ...then i'll have a 7 string, right?
but, considering the cost and time involved, i just might buy a new one LOL!

Re: Body size: 6 vs 7
you could do that i guess
ive always wondered something quite similar.. but the other way round.
ok, i'm buying a £550 Prestige 6 string RG, but i also want a 7 string guitar...
could i spend that £550 on a 7 String Prestige RG (or add a little more if necesarry) and then if i feel like playing just a 6 string remove the low B ?
or would that mess with the trem?
sorry for hijack

I think you're biggest problem would be that you would have to move the trem post anchors to fit the wider trem (ie, remove them, fill the holes and re-drill which could be awkward). If it were a six
string fixed bridge
model body then I think it would be easy to rout the body for a 7 string neck, pickups and trem. The body shapes are pretty much identical - I've had an RG7 body sat on top of an RG6 body and they are the same apart from a slight change in shape around the edges of the neck pocket - not enough to worry about IMO.

Re: Body size: 6 vs 7
yup, you'd have to retune. pretty inconvenient.
plus, you could have some problems if you need to fret the low E string with your thumb or whatnot, i guess.
but i think it's pretty awkward to actually play the 7-string as a 6-string, with the low B string absent, because of the neck width, don't you think?
