Do anybody knows which strings and tunings do bands like Cannibal Corpse and Nevermore uses with their 7-string guitars ?

Actually, I'm pretty sure that Cannibal Corpse has used 7 strings. Possibly on Vile and Gore Obsessed? Since they've always tuned down a half-step, I'd bet that they're in A# on their sevens.

Vai did it..

If you do it on a baritone, its not nearly as bad.

Ha, this is why I love Nevermore. The guitarist uses string gauges 10-52 for his 6, and adds a 70 for his 7 string. Very heavy and articulate sounding.

But, does the neck suffer from that tension (A# on 70) ? How much springs do you need then ?

i used to tune my six in C for some time. i used 11-52 strings, a little sloppy!
i'm gonna tune the axe in A#, so i'll try 0.62 or 64, or even 68... well erm

correct tuning

Both Cannibal Corpse and Nevermore Tune their 6 and 7 strings down one half-step down to Eb and Bb.

Jeff Loomis started to use 7's on Dead Heart in a Dead World and Corpse... I think since the Vile album, although if I am not mistaken, Robb Barrett [former Cannibal Corpse guitar player] played a Les Paul tuned to Bb, while Jack owen played on an Ibanez RG... forget the model...rgh.. it'll come to me.....

I tune my Squire Strat with 9-46 guage strings to everything from standard to drop-C, and it works fine for me. Then again, I used to use 10-54 and tune to standard.
