Carvin Neckthru blanks

Hey guys..

I am going to place my order for a neckthru blank tomorrow. I have decided that due to time constrants, The first one will be a Carvin 7 string blank. I been talking with Aaron from Carvin and it sounds really awesome so far.

The price hes quoted me at so far is around $370, but that includes 7 string blank, Maple fretboard with locking nut, SS frets and shipping. I think tis a fair price! 3-6 week build time means hopefully I can get it and work on my project soon.

The only problem so far, is the headstock will have to be a DC727 headstock, which isnt terrible but im not a big fan. I think I am going to add some extra wood to it, and carve out something else though. Least the shape, the tuning locations I will keep the same for stability reasons.

Now the hard part. Deciding which body would look best with it. For this project, I am deciding between either an ibanez RG shape, or the Carvin DC727 shape. Both are similar, but well different obviously. It will be quilt top Sunburst (amber burst to dark red) and Edge LoPro7 + Dactivator + Duncan Jazz7, on blank Maple fretboard.. Should be pretty awesome

Anyone ever order a carvin neck blank? My two idols (TMac and Marty) have used Carvins so I am looking forward to it, even just as a kinda Idol worship thing, but also because everyone says how great they are. Can't wait to see myself!

i have.. built my own custom.. the necks are very smooth, thin, you can shread for days, or play any style you want. i recommend carvin's necks.

I see the maple fretboard bit, but what about the neck itself? Their mahogany necks are the way to go, in my opinion. I wouldn't get maple on maple.

Re: Carvin Neckthru blanks

What I actually might be doing now, is Chris Woods is going to get the carvin blank for me, then do one of his "speed guitars".. Because by the time I'd get the carvin blank, im moving for college so I wont have time to do any of the woodwork, then when I get it back from Chris all I will have to do is paint and install hardware.. So that is abit better. But technically it will still be a Carvin! so probably going to still put a Carvin logo on it lol

This should be irrelevant to the thread subject, but I can't help my self not pointing out how much I ENVY your new guitar project!
A single humbucker neck-through 7 string (with piezo) is my dream guitar!
I will complain again for not being able to order direct from Carvin here in Greece. We have to do it through a dealer and this doubles the cost!

I think that it will turn out great! Congrats on the choice!

idk my dad has a G&L with a birdseye maple neck and fretboard, they are both off the same piece and flipped so that the curve of the wood neutralizes each other and keeps the neck straight.
